How to transition between therapists?

Yes, I have lived several years with PTSD so transitioning Therapist happens. I found honesty works well with changing therapist for the following reasons:
1) They can reflect and maybe elect to get additional training if they desire.
2) They can add another client to their case load.
3) It leaves the door open in case you wish to return at somepoint and for your new T to possibly give a call for some research to the older T with her case study.
4) Opening up to your T that you are looking for an different outcome or resolution may assist you in clarifying what that might look like.

Not once did those Ts offer anything but positive feedback when I elected to change. May your experience go as well.:)

Thank you! You're calming down some of my anxieties about this whole situation.
I really tried to work things out with my current therapist. Honestly, I like her and she has helped in many ways, I just need someone who is a bit more validating and understands where I am coming from. I don't see a path opening to things moving forward and although I could stay with her, I feel like we would still be stuck. I am grateful to her however and if possible would like to be honest about the situation.
I don't know where the transference issues come from. I just completely freeze in there.

I think honesty is the best approach here. There is no point continuing therapy if you feel as though it s not benefitting you. All therapists/counsellors/psychologists are taught that they may not click with everyone or be able to help everyone and that they need to be flexible when it comes to the client wanting to move on. I think it is worthwhile discussing it with your T and explaining that you would like to do trauma-specific work, and that perhaps a trauma therapist might be better. If your current T is willing, they might put together your case file and provide it to your new T so you don't have to go through the awful process of retelling your story again. Changing therapists is hard, but you deserve to feel as though your treatment is going where you want it to. All the best :)
