I don't have trouble getting to sleep, but I have trouble staying asleep. I am quite wakeful. I had a sleep study done when I was in my early 20's and was told I was a primary insomniac - whatever the hell that means :) I think it depends where we're both at - but I have not been able to pick up a true 'established' pattern. With my depression/anxiety, I can sometimes sleep for longer periods of time when it is worse, yet the opposite can also be true. I recently went through a stage where I was waking every hour. It's not much better than that now, but it is a bit and for that I'm glad. I get severe night sweats though (not menopausal either, so who the hell knows about that one - it started before I fell pregnant, continued throughout the entire pregnancy and still goes on now, although I have the odd night without it).
I am trying to do some things to help my sleep patterns a bit though - going to bed at a better, more regular time and usually getting up around the same time.
