This week, when we had guests here and a plan to all go and eat in a restaurant, I came home from work to the pan of soup and also a pan of cooked mince. Rory had accepted them with thanks. I simply put them straight in the freezer.
Then Rory told me later that he has lied to Mr M and said it was all really tasty - it may well be, but that is not the point. I am really annoyed as that would have been the ideal opportunity to demonstrate that we are grateful but it is not always appropriate.

No! Sometimes I do invite him over, but the whole point is to cook him something that he cannot do for himself - like a roast dinner with pork crackling and all the trimmings. He has had many a meal with us, and I know he enjoys it. I think it would insult if I fed back to him the gift he had given us.Perhaps, invited him over for a meal of his own making
