New Here
I have been diagnosed many years ago with PTSD, depression and panic disorder. I have tried what ever the doctors wanted me to try with much hesitation and no satisfaction. I stopped my SSRI's because I would act a fool while on them I have tried Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor, Paxil, and Celaxa oh and plus I started to take klonopin for my panic about 9 years ago. The only thing that I have stayed with was my klonopin. I just started seeing a new Pych. and now he says that I have ADD and wants me to take wellbutrin. I'm a bit nervous about it because of it amping people up. This is what I have read and that is what gets me into trouble, I read to much. Does anyone else know anymore about this medication?

My son took the generic form of this for ADD for a short time. To me it did not do anything for him. I have found that the best way to control ADD is with diet. I put my son on a glueton free diet and within two months he no longer needed meds at all in fact he does well in school and is no longer so impulsive.

There are many naturalist who are touting the benefits of diet for ADD so its pretty simple to research. I think for some it works and some it doesn't. Good luck, Beverly

If by Wellbutrin you mean Buphropion - My husband and I both take it. He had tried others like it and is quite happy on his dosage. I had a few side effects with mine, as I was supposed to take the pill twice daily. I took the second dose entirely too late in the day (learned that later) so it kept me up at night. Once I started taking them earlier, I was fine.

I still have to make sure I eat PRIOR to taking it, but I do that with any medication as my stomach is really wimpy. The only other thing I know is that if you smoke, it makes that pretty nasty. I know some people who take Buphropion to help them quit smoking.

Glad you're here!

Welcome to the forum. :)

I can't not give you good feedback on SSRI's, as I can not take them. I had lots of problems while on them.

I am sorry that you have these problems. Sometimes medication is not for everybody. Are you concerned for some reason? But if you trust your doctor, I would at least try wellburtin and make sure you take it long enough to know if it helps you or not.

Wishing you peace.

Are you seeing a psychologist/therapist at all? Or are you only seeing a psychiatrist? (A psychiatrist prescribes medication, a psychologist/therapist does not.) It sounds like you only have a psychiatrist.

"I have tried what ever the doctors wanted me to try" <---This is not good! Take charge of your mental health; trust your instincts/intelligence. If you don't want to take the drug, then don't. If you don't like this psychiatrist's opinion, then quit seeing him/her and go out and get other opinions from other doctors. You're an adult, it's your choice!

If you aren't already doing so, you really need to see a therapist/psychologist instead of having a treatment plan that emphasizes drugs. Look for a good trauma therapist or at least someone who practices psychodynamic psychotherapy in conjunction with cognitive-behavioral-therapy (CBT).

One of the most common mistakes that people make when dealing with mental illness is they go straight to their primary care physician or a psychiatrist and believe that medication is all they need. They don't realize that psychotherapy is the real treatment, and medication is more like a side-dish.

Wow PerfectEmpire...its funny how you mention CBT that is what my Psychiatrist wants to do with me and I am also seeing a therapist. I have always been a bit crazy about taken any form of medication. This is one thing I do know about my new Psychiatrist he is NOT and drug pusher. And I'm very greatful for that, that is all that I had been seeing before. I'm sorry that I put up "doctors" I should have been more specific.
I have a hard time with leaving my house and I only have to walk 2 houses away to go see both of them so I figure that will help in some way to get me outta my hole and breathe in the fresh air...funny part is I panic just walking that short of a distance. I know there is a big problem with me and I really want and need the help more than ever now.
I have a grand baby due in Nov. and I want to be somewhat functioning or even better fully!

Thank you PerfectEmpire, Ayesha, ProudWife99, and BeverlyG.

Hi, I am going to be a first time grandmother in August. Was happy to see your good news. I have made progress with the help of my therapist. I do take meds for Depression and Anxiety Disorder. I have been on xanax too long (over 10 years) the only releif I get from it now is keeping withdrawl down. It is OK short term for getting over the hump as someone combines therapy with it. I pray you have much progress and a future with less symptoms.

Y Thank you :) debptsd and congrats on ur great news too. I have to chuckle about the xanax, (nothing to do with you) I was so against taking that and then I started to take Klonopin...if we only knew what we were stepping into when these meds are prescribed to us. I wish that I had never taken it, I also go through the same I take mine just to keep the withdrawl away. My new Psychiatrist is talking to me about putting me on a Beta Blocker to help get me off the Klonopin....its still on the table and I really want to get off these pills. I know they are not good for long term use just as the xanax. The only reason it is still on the table is because I have to research it a bit more...but I'm sure leaning towards it!
