Medical I Have Lyme Disease And Now I Have Been Diagnosed With Shingles

On top of the Pleurisy (a type of lung infection) I had recently, I now have been diagnosed with Shingles too! I went today to see if anything could be done about it and all they can suggest is Tylenol for pain relief. They also gave me a shot in my knee. It was too late to get the antiviral medicine that can help stave off Shingles complications. I had the Shingles shot too, and that is what scares me. My mother and my aunt both had shingles and that was why I got the shot. But now I am thinking that maybe getting the shot gave me the Shingles? I am a mess of physical and mental disorders, as I have Bipolar too! Please pray for me if you pray. Thanks!

I keep you in my prayers, SheilaKathy. I am so sorry for all your health problems. That's really disturbing that you had the Shingles shot and still got it. I vividly remember having chicken pox and keep telling myself I should get the shot, but there's some reason I can't remember now that I shouldn't get it yet. Maybe my age? I don't know. Anyway, sorry for the stuff about me. I will keep you in my prayers, asking God to give you His healing comfort.

It could be about your age. You have to be 60 to get the shot. However, if you have any condition or illness that weakens your immune system, don't get the shot. That increases your chances of getting Shingles then. Be well!

There is a type of neurology that one can get with Shingles. They say that 10-15% of folks who get Shingles also get it. It can cause all kinds of complications! I am praying to God I do not get it, as it can make Shingles literally last for YEARS!

I remember having the Chicken Pox as a child 3 times! I know you are supposed to get it only once and then that should be it, but I had it 3 times. I also had lots of ear infections when I was a kid too. Like countless numbers of them, so many we lost count!

Wow. I had lots of ear and throat infections as a little kid, too. By the time I was 5, the doctor said my tonsils and adnoids had to come out. They were grey, shriveled, and not doing any good.

The best part of recovery after surgery was buttered steak and ice cream. Lots of ice cream!!

I am so sorry to hear of your health troubles, Sheila. I've heard that shingles are terrible. I hope you get well soon, and I'll keep you in my thoughts. I don't pray, but sometimes I go to church, and I'll ask them to pray for you. :hug:

I have had shingles several times. I am not 60 and they gave me the vaccine. They hurt and suck for a while but they also prescribe an a it-viral medication that helps. If you didn't get that you should call your doctor back and ask for it. I take an Advil or aleve usually for pain and nothing else. They say it is tied to your immune system so if you can take some vitamins, eat well, and hydrate well while the episode is happening maybe they will clear up quickly. I hope you feel better soon!
