New Here
Hello,

I'm looking for some support, some friends even, and lots and lots of suggestions and advice.

I was diagnosed as having late onset complex PTSD 2 years ago.

I have definatly been down the substance abuse road, more than once.

I am exhasted, experiencing constant sickness, I assume due to a weakened immune system (due to stress), and have chronic aches and pains.

I have been to several counsellors, none of which have proven very helpful.

I have two wonderful children, and a very busy, hard working husband. I have been trying to take college courses whilst being a stay at home mom, but am just getting off a year's break due to the illness of my grandmother.

Long story short, I have no real family to speak of outside my own husband and kids. I have a lot of issues that I am struggling with in relation to PTSD, and I could definatly use a community of people who understand. I sure hope this is it!

Very good to meet you all,

Erin

Hi Erin and welcome to the forum...

You have certainly come to the right place and there are many here who will be able to relate to your situation. Seeking understanding and support is a good start and having people around you (even if only online) is a wonderful feeling.

I have complex PTSD also and there is a lot of information here that will help. Check out the PTSD and Complex PTSD information sections and posts etc...

Great to have you here with us.

Erin,

Welcome! I think you have found a great place. I've gotten so much support and made a lot of friends here. There are some wonderful people here and lots of helpful information. The support here is amazing.

Hello Erin,

Welcome and I'm sorry you're here, well...sorry we're all here anyway. I understand how it is to be a busy mom while coping with PTSD. I also understand substance abuse and am just 3 days away from my 5000th day of recovery. Without the background I have in recovery and the principles I learned there, I certainly would not have been able to remain substance free throughout my own trauma.

There is strength in numbers and many here to help. Again, welcome!

Hi Erin, :hello:

Welcome to the Forum. This is a place that is like a second home for many. Lots of information and lots of caring, compassionate and wise people ready to take the time to listen, share, relate and give advice.

Hi Erin,

Yes, you are in the right place! I am glad you found us
I tried studying as well and found it very difficult - I just could not concentrate and my memory was shot. I will hopefully take it up again when I am more stable.

I hope you can find a good psychologist soon - working with someone who understands CPTSD is the only way to true healing. In the meantime, google Pete Walker for some really good insights into CPTSD.

Hugs to you - take care.
