Ideas For Good Jobs... Outdoors Preferable...

I've been googling and googling looking for a job I may be able to handle.

I haven't worked in over 3 years so right now it would have to be really really part time and preferably outdoors.

I have a vision of working in a flower nursery (is there a proper name for it?) but can't think of an actual store.

The only thing I think of is Walmart and that's NOT what I want.

Any ideas would be so helpful!

Hope your all doing well :)

Ya, they are called Nurserys.... don't know what part of the States you live in... but most all places have Nurserys nearby.... I would love to do that too.... good luck.... let us know if you find one that hires you

I did have a qualification, but in the UK that wouldn't be necessary. I did a part time free course, funded by the EU, then a year full time. I don't know about requirements in other countries. It's more about being willing to work in all weathers, doing a repetitive job with varying levels of physical exertion. I

There are wholly indoor nurseries though, producing house plants and exotic cut flowers under glass. Of course, they get quite hot, but lots of people like that. In my area, I suspect that most nurseries would welcome someone who wanted to volunteer through spring and summer when the workload is highest. That might be a way to test it out with no risk. I've wondered about that for myself, but I doubt my physical fitness is up to the mark nowadays.

I think even starting to think about work is a good sign. Good luck.

I used to do that for a living. It was the only job where I'd get up in the morning and think excitedl...
You said it. I worked for a season in a commercial size greenhouse. It was hard, sweaty manual labor....but extremely rewarding. Waking up and going to work in a nice warm greenhouse with a kaleidoscope of colorful flowers all around. It was magical for me. Have wanted to work in horticulture ever since. Too bad people make me nervous and Im too weak right now to leave the house much less go to work.......in time in time....

Thats what I did. During the season they will commonly accept walk ons with little to no experience...pretty much a no questions asked situation...they just want you there and working hard....I think my job in a greenhouse was the best work I ever had...

Aside from Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, etc------all of the local nurseries in my area are independently owned.

Come to think of it, our area is a hot bed for MMJ farms, too.

Have you tried searching for local independent places? I don't think you need any sort of horticultural degree for many of these positions.

I have been considering moving to a recreational state for a job in the mmj industry.

I honestly have no idea-----I just know that in my area there are a number of proposed MMJ farms in the works based on what I've seen in the news. It could be a good job opportunity though. I suggest doing a bit of research before making any major moves. Good luck! :)
