I'm Recovered Enough To Realise....

I'm recovered enough to realise that alters surface when the 'danger' has passed. And that DID may be the result of PTSD. I have been dealing with alters surfacing for about ten years. I read about acknowledging them and working to get along. They have faded into the background again for the most part. But I am feeling quite depressed and very tired.

I have also been reading about living with DID and recovering from it. Some of what I read was actually a bit frightening. It seems the closer one comes to recovery the more hostility one might expect. I don't know how to prepare for this. I would be very interested in hearing from others who have any information on DID and recovery.

This is not a DID forum, so please find the more appropriate resource, as DID is extremely rare and 99.9999% of the time, misdiagnosed.

The incorrect diagnoses of some must make it even more difficult for those who do experience it.

I do not have DID but am just interested as it is just another form of dissociation and this is a dissociation forum. Don't mean to put the cat among the pidgeons or anything but just want to be sure I have not misunderstood. Am assuming someone would not need proof of diagnoses to post about something. ? I am new here! Thank you.

Actually, DID is the new term for multiple personality disorder, and DID is extremely over-diagnosed now that they changed that term and 99% of DID diagnoses are misdiagnosed, and DSM V are heavily reviewing it for its next release due to the damage caused, just as they are with the PTSD diagnosis for the same reasons.

This forum cannot handle multiple personality disorder due to the nature of it, hence why it is not supported here. Dissociation is part of PTSD, hence why this topic forum exists. This topic forum is not to support every dissociative disorder available though, this forum overall is only about PTSD and its symptoms.
