Instagram Trolls - Do You Have Them?

@Saelben Many years ago I belonged to a PTSD forum and flame wars abounded and I unwittingly got involved sorry to say so I got rid of my computer until I learned how to better behave here.:)

@Neverthesame - There was a time not too long ago when I would've laughed my ass off about your post.
...then I met the first batch of Support Beaver Owners (may I please call them that from now on? It's just an "accidental" slip of the finger away from SOB...) in the wild.

Now I think you haven't lived until you've gone shopping for clothes, asked a member of shop-staff whether they had a particular item in a smaller size and got the severely overweight chick behind you screaming at you about how you triggered her, are a size-ist b*tch with ThinPriv and should go die.

Part of me wants to know how that whole mentality got started. There's got to be a reason why grown people have become such whiny, entitled, quixotic 4-year-olds who truly believe the world owes them one hell of a lot because they're female / obese / genderfluid / hatrack-kin / self-diagnosed autistic / possibly 1/124 non-caucasian / donkeys / whatever - but another, stronger part is fairly certain I'd lose all faith in humanity if I knew. :cautious:

So, to get back on topic here: Nope, no InstaTrolls, just real-life ones, but those are plenty enough. :shifty::wtf:

Ahahaha, you're instagram pics are their safe place? Seriously? I love instrgram for my pics, I dont look at anyone else's but family because i have no idea whom they are!

Well sometimes i'll look at places, like your pics on here of Melborne are pretty cool but they arent ever gonna be "my safe place"! That person has some issues for sure!

Holy f*cking crap! Ive been having a habit of going way back in the help desk here and the absoulte craziness that you've had to deal with is insane!

Have i had trolls? Ive had people on instragram and facebook try to friend me and i havent a clue whom they are so i deny it. So yeah, if asking over and over to "be my friend" when ive said no is trolling, then i suppose so but damn, nothing like that.

I feel for ya!

I don't know if Twitter counts,

OMG dont get me started on twitter. I HATE TWITTER but i use it ONLY because my company posts overtime on there and its the only way to know when OT is offered on my days off, but its all i use it for, its the my only follower, ive never posted a "tweet" but my twitter has been hacked over 20 times back to back. Im almost positive it was malware on my S3 but to my defensive the S3 was my first smart phone, im cheap.

I had to go unfollow over 20000 people, change my password just to have it hacked the next day...and i know it was my phone as its the only thing ive ever used to log into twitter.

People that make malware should go get an IT job and leave poor people alone!

On subject, interesting perspective. A good read. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/apr/16/monica-lewinsky-shame-sticks-like-tar-jon-ronson

"Lewinsky has advice for bystanders, too: “Don’t bully the bully. It doesn’t move the conversation forward. I see bullying as similar to cutting. People who cut are trying to localise their pain. I think with bullying, people are suffering for myriad reasons and are projecting it. Instead of cutting themselves, they’re cutting someone else.”

"She came up with her most recent endeavour after some teenagers told her how hard it can be to find the right words. They’d see their friends being bullied online and wouldn’t know what to say. “I realised,” she says, “that our brains process images faster than text, which means the fastest way you can help – the least amount of time between someone feeling alone and upset, and feeling just a tiny bit better – is with an image.”

And so she pitched an idea to Vodafone. Could she design a keyboard of anti-bullying gifs and emojis for them?

“And now you can get them on all carriers,” she says. “Look. Let me show you…”

She pulls out her phone and starts to search for them. I remember something we talked about at the start of the interview – her fear of misspeaking and bringing the maelstrom back down upon her. It’s not an irrational anxiety. Formerly shamed people frequently find themselves suddenly reshamed for the original transgression when they least expect it – when social media hears they’ve got a new job, for instance. We tend to relentlessly define people by the worst mistake they ever made.
