I agree with this. Even psychiatrist who also did psychotherapy - use to specialize in severe trauma at one point in career for over a decade. Told me I needed to be seeing someone who currently specializes in PTSD or trauma treatment once stable enough. This was first meeting...

If you can find someone with experience highly recommend. At least they will understand the depth of damage, and validate.

Hi! Welcome to the forum!!! Hope you find the right therapist! I would find one that specializes in trauma or PTSD. I found others sometimes can't be as helpful as they'd like to.

As I have stated it is only a counsellor at college... I'm unsure if a therapist is the same thing... the only issue I have is I leave after an hour (1hr a week) fuelled with emotions etc. As I have been born on a council estate... I may never have the money for a proper therapist until I am way older. My ptsd anxiety and depression has to be hidden from my dad, brother and current boyfriend and none of them are understanding of it... the main reply I would get from my dad (he isn't violent etc anymore) is "you got to grow up and not follow that pathetic route of depression or you will get no where in life"

I can understand where he is coming from but having no one to discuss things with became to hard to handle... it led to self harm and attempted suicide at the age of 15.

I don't have friends due to social anxiety after consistent bullying through my school life so no support from anyone there.

@Kutiekittii654 , I think most of us understand having to hide the abuse and PTSD. I hid everything for 35 years! It just got to the point where I decided my sanity and healing was worth more than my secrecy. I hope you will be able to get to that point because it makes the healing so much easier. Some people will support and understand you, those people will be your true friends. Good luck on your journey and I'm glad you found us for added support. :):hug::hug:

When I was really lacking support, I found it here, so I hope this place helps :hug. Come to chat, post threads, that stuff helps.
