Is The Loss Of Cognitive Ability A Ptsd Symptom?

Question to MS Spock. What sort of typing games? Can you point me in the right direction?

Typing games for kids.
Learning to type games for kids.

When I am teaching someone that has cognitive challenges (for whatever) I try to find a kid's book at the library to read for them or with them. I also look at kid's games on that subject on the internet.

Once the person has read some kid's books and has begun to reinforce that learning on top of the learning they have (called scaffolding as you are scaffolding knowledge or learning that they already had and a teaching them how to break down newer information in their brain). Kid's books are great, because if there are any kids around they will read the person the book. Kid's books are generally better written and funnier and have memory devices encoded in to them. Kid's will lose interest if the author is waffling on.

The other thing which is helpful about kid's books is that it distills the information in to a more bit size and mangeable chunks. This can be helpful for people with cognitive challenges in the future as they can do it themselves. Find the kid's book that appeals to them and start learning.

Once you are at the point of finding kid's games on the internet and they are near or about the subject. Then you start off at the beginner's level and you learn at your own pace. I try to learn when I am stressed (for five minutes or sometimes two minutes) and in all other states as well. There are a number of good outcomes for me in doing this - I focus on something other than the panic attack or stress or whatever. I am teaching my self how to learn. I am learning something at a level that doesn't unduly stress my brain (hehehehe sometimes!) and I am learning how to learn in the different states of PTSD.

Free typing games gets some of my favourite ones (from a search engine).

I will PM you my favourite one though I have found a heap more since thinking about this again.

I find it really hard to play the games my kids want to play with me. It always breaks my heart. I sleep rather well, so I don't think its because of that. I think mostly my concentration issues are due to a dissociative disorder.

It's great to know there are ways of combating this. Breaking down the tasks seems like it would help a lot. I always feel so overwhelmed by things. Would Luminosity help with dissocations too?

I kept calling it Luminosity as well, but it's actually Lumosity...no 'in' in there.

I'm honestly not sure if it would help with dissociation. You could contact the company and see what they say*shrug*

I checked out Lumosity and it was fun. But I am hesitant. The scientific evidence regarding it's efficacy is thin. Perhaps too thin seeing as how long it has been in operation.

For now, I told myself I could pay to play only if I got my exercise program back into shape. Need to get that aerobic activity first to clear out some of this fog.

Is The Loss Of Cognitive Ability A Ptsd Symptom?

It is for me. I think head trouble will always lead to head trouble, but I'm no neurologist so I don't know. But I'd bet PTSD always -> cognitive problems.
