The Mutilated Jackalope is a character I created in my sketch journal.
My aim was to create a character dealing with some of my darker mental issues.
When the Jackalope was young she was a pretty maiden with white flowers flowing from her crown of antlers.
Everything about her before symbolized innocence and virginity,
but despite that she was the protector of a wild garden.
One day a creature entered her garden,
he played at innocence, romping and paying games with the Jackalope and the other creatures.
But these "games" were just a way for the creature to corrupt the Jackalope and her garden with his dark magic.
The evil creature had such a strong hold on her and her garden that the only way to banish him was to make a great sacrifice.
So the Jackalope ripped herself open and made a harp from her guts & organs.
She then played a song that allowed her flowers to grow thorns and her animals to grow teeth and claws to defend themselves.
Once the creature was driven away the animals of the garden came and sewed the Jackalope shut.
The Jackalope has been rendered genderless so that "evil magic" no longer has an effect.

(I hope the art is not too graphic, if it is please let me know and I will remove it and use the version that edits out the more gory bits.)

Wow!!! jackalope.. I dont have English words for this in Afrikaans it is " ongelooflik passie vol!!!". ( encradibly passion full) The English translation just do not say it like i mean it in Afrikaans ..

This is really moving, and the drawing is amazing, though the story behind it awfully sad...

Sending hugs

Sleep is always fleeting and my bed never feels like a safe place to be. How it feels to be so tired you can't move, but too tormented to sleep. Exhaustion with no reprieve. I've worked on this for weeks and weeks, often during those times when I couldn't sleep. I always feel sympathetic towards mice stuck to sticky traps and I often manage to use oil to get them off the trap and set the free in the woods away from my home. I know they aren't cruel creatures that invade our homes out of malice, they're just animals seeking food and warmth. I also know what it's like to feel small and vulnerable, so I tried to capture the yin and yang using this as my subject to represent the similarities between something considered beautiful and something considered vermin.

(Once again if anything is too graphic please let me know. I do want to say this isn't meant to be sexualized nudity, I simply wanted to represent the human body in what I consider it's most vulnerable state.)
