And it is my opinion that we bring this back to present circumstances. Legal semi-automatic weapons (at least in Nevada) are a mechanism for violence. And the silencer bill that was quietly put aside (for what will amount to a moment or two)?

The second amendment? Fairly certain it might be a good idea to not invoke an 18th century law in an attempt to regulate a 21at century public health crisis.

It’s been reported that he had cameras inside his room and outside in the hallway. Paranoid or just wanting to make sure his plan of a killing spree went off????? It’s also stated that he berated his girlfriend in public often...

IMO, you have to have a serious mental disorder to plan and then kill people like he did. Actually anyone that kills IMO has to have a mental disorder. Again, JMO

I cannot even begin to imagine what kind of deep sickness a person would have to have to purposely want to harm other human beings or to commit the kind of cold blooded murder(s) that took place in Vegas. I just want to say that my heart goes out to all the victims, families and everyone else who is affected by this evil, madness. I guess I don't really have anything else I can add, except my silent prayers.

Because I can easily imagine a scenario where I might need my guns to defend myself against the government.

It is not possible for any one or even several thousand gun owners to successfully repel the US Government should they actually wish to take you in. This is a delusion that, while common, has no basis in reality. But I understand the desire to believe we could actually keep ourselves safe if our government was coming for us.

Eh. I dunno. I've worked as a government employee. I've been to the DMV. The government has tremdous power, too much... it has a scary level of power really.

But, at the same time, I'm astonished they manage to get anything done... Really.

I do believe a well organized militia could not only could put up a good defense - the fear of such a revolt by the populous is one of many checks and balances to government taking over.

One of the first things Hiitler did was to take away weapons of self defense. Made it easier to take over the populus.

We are at the point that even if all guns were made illegal to own today, it's not going to eliminate the massive number of guns out there. It's just not. And no, I don't totally buy the stance that a good guy with a gun will stop a bad guy with a gun.

However, this bad guy with a gun also had the supplies to kill many more people with a large bomb.

We need a cultural shift.

We need more of a culture of personal responsibility. The NRA drives me a little nuts because while they rant and rave and use all their money to protect the second amendment, they do very little to help promote a culture of personal responsibility. No card carrying member of the NRA has ever committed a mass shooting, but they have influenced the culture to demand rights but not influenced culture to create a greater demand that people also take personal responsibility for their lives.

We need a culture of greater community connections and less isolation. We are an extremely isolated self aborted culture in the US. That's gotta shift...

@Justmehere I’m not sure if it’s greater community connections, less isolations, or if it’s just more crazies coming out of the woodwork. In 2015 22,000 suicide deaths by gun, almost 13,000 murders by guns. I understand that we will never get all guns out of the hands of people, even if we made them illegal, but there wouldn’t be 35,000 deaths by guns either....

I don’t know what the answer is, but I really believe that we need to at least have serious discussions. And those MUST start in Washington. But, we all know how Donnie feels about gun control....

It is not only the victims affected but their families too.
And their friends. And co-workers. And everyone in attendance at that concert. The impact is enormous...

I am a survivor of violent crime and have had a gun aimed at the back of my head. I am lucky to be alive. And having a firearm in my house wouldn't have changed a damn thing unless I was reckless enough to sleep with it under my pillow. Enough of these atrocities. Enough.

A "bump stock" device was found on the shooters weapons, which mimics automatic fire. This is simply abhorrent. All of it.

I pray to GOD he didn't have a mental disorder.

The USA Today article I read today says his family indicated that he had no mental disorders and it was a complete shock to them.
