Laundry Question

I just threw brand new socks into the wash machine. They were only worn once. I put them in there with towels and other socks. None of our socks are coming out clean. I use Arm & Hammer with Oxy clean. Why is this happening. It has been happening all along but I never put two and two together. I just kept buying new socks. Any ideas?

I know the logical thing to do is bleach them but they are brand new. Why would this happen first time going in?

No. It costs $1.25 to wash in our apartment laundry room lol it didn't even take any of the dirt out. The sock smells like a freshly washed fabric but did nothing to clean the sock.

I have washed new socks before in other machines and never had that happen. Do you think it's the machine?

Maybe something with machine. Has someone washed oily work clothes in it? I have a front loader and there is a 2 inch rubber ring around the opening, I have found a missing sock in there. I realized that something dark could get caught in there and turn whites dirty looking.

I guess that is possible. It is a community machine. The soil was already on my socks but it is soil from walking around in dust when I need to sweep our hard wood floors lol I just thought it strange that washing new socks after only being worn once didn't clean at all.

They smell fresh but didn't clean at all if that makes sense?

It could be the washing machine and the dryer. I am sorry this is happening to you. How utterly frustrating.

If they smell nice but are still dirty it could be that the washing powder isn't getting in to the machine but the softener is...?

Have you tried a washing booster? Maybe borax or a washing soda? It could be that your water is on the hard side and clothes don't clean as well as in soft water. The washing soda helps to soften water and borax is a detergent booster.

I use Tide with bleach alternative on all my clothes. It seems to get them cleaner.
