Everyone else here has pretty much said it all. Great job acting so quickly and definitively. Great job taking care of yourself and your kids. The one thing that sucks is that *you* have to be the one to leave, not him. Hopefully, that's temporary. :)

It's all just stuff. You have the kids, most important. I ran with my daughter, the cat, the dog, the pet chinchilla, a huge debt and the clothes on my back. I was able to retrieve more clothes a couple of days later. And my mantra then and now, "Living well is the best revenge." It took time, but I was able to dig myself out of the hole I had put myself in. Be good, be strong.

I know the debt is what is really gonna get to me. My credit is good right now and we have accounts together, I only hope he doesn't go crazy and start maxing stuff out to get back at me. I think my rage would come out and cause serious damage. Lol.

You could take immediate steps about this by closing those accounts. It would be a good thing to do if you could manage it. Ring up and put a stop on the cards? Someone else will know more than me.

Perhaps a domestic violence hotline could assist you with information or get you in contact with someone who has current information about these issues?

Perhaps some financial counseling could assist?

Yes, And force the creditor to say (in writing ) that the account can not be reopened! Angel's X reopened a closed account at BB, Charged several expensive items, and then defaulted on the account. Since she was co on the account, we had to pay back the debt. We forced them to sign an agreement not to reopen the account again.

If you had the money, it would be good to get one of those services that monitor all of your credit stuff (but I know I can't afford them).

You should be able to take your name off the account. You are entitled to half the money, you really need some legal counsel here as the best way to go.
