So last week my therapist asked me to cover each eye one at a time when I start feeling really bad inside or my brain is at odds with itself and see which one feels better uncovered and then to deep breath with the bad one covered (I think that's how she explained it).

So this morning was rough and I got a bit out of control. When I felt more myself but still, highly anxious, I gave it a try and found that I seemed to feel better with my left eye covered.

I know that the brain processes visual input from the opposite side of the brain i.e. left eye is processed by right brain.

For some reason she said it was important for her to know which side felt better uncovered. I did a little reading and found some vague information about eye patch therapy but don't really understand it.

Does this make sense to anybody?

Haven't heard of it nut am certainly going to research it. Sounds like something I can use!
Thank you for sharing this and let us know how you are doing.

Thank you for...

I did feel like it was a little more effective doing the breathing that way. Maybe I need to practice it more and try to catch it before I'm out of control.

Some of the information on "patching" talks about actually wearing a patch for a short period of time daily to increase communication between the two hemispheres.

I'll see if my T can tell me more about it next week.

If you try it, come back and post, I'll do the same!

@7Cs My previous "talk" therapy T I had noticed seem to be focusing on my left eye (we were only about 3 or so ft. from the other) and I asked him why? His answer was vague (putting it mildly) and yet I vaguely remember his answer - something to do with emotion mind and that when this former T would look into my left eye while doing sessions, that he believed I seemed to not be as emotional (crying, sadder, etc.) then when he - T would look only into my right eye. I too @7Cs have tried to research this - and can find no information on this subject. If you find anything more - or if your T shares more, I hope you will share with me. Former T seemed to be a bit off guard and a tad surprised that I was aware of what he was doing (focusing and looking only into my left eye throughout session, and @7Cs T also seemed to be a tad bit secretive and also did not want to explain what mode of T this actually was - again tight-lipped about this T - most certainly was, giving little explanation other than the above I've now shared with you. As you pointed out - it's a left brain - right brain activation/de-activation having to do with emotional regulation vs. emotional dysregulation - and that is what I believe this covering of eye to be when I was emotionally dysregulated - hope this helped. Thank you for posting about this @7Cs - I'd forgotten about this and had always wanted to know more. JadesJewel

This is interesting. Does anyone get ocular migraines? Usually when I have one it's in one eye and it helps to put my hand over that eye. A few weeks ago at work I got it in both eyes.

If/when you talk more with your T about this technique - patching? please, share with me what you find out. Thank you (huggers) JadesJewel
