Left Out In The Rain

Its like the Kangaroos at all our firing ranges. In the 80's, the first detail on the range used to clear it with 7.62. Now the touch feely animal rights activists ensure that we have to drive our vehicle down and scare them away. The whole range shoot stops when one jumps out.

LMAO yeah that rings a bell. I remember going to one Range, I think it was in Wales, where you shot out to sea. had to stop shooting every time a boat wanted to pass. We even set lookouts to ensure they weren`t hit. must of been around 1987 - `88 Remember seeing the SA80 for the first time. Think it was the LI or Green Jackets who were trialing them. we were all like WOW! nice bit of kit. When we were actually issued them we were like "WTF? what`s this piece ò shit. Sir! why can`t I keep my SLR"

One hundred percent. Got the SA80 in '89. One conversion day down at Warminster. First mag, 5 stoppages. Breech area looked like the swarf bin for a brass-turning lathe.
Put my hand up, and I have to hand it to the School of Infantry Range Monkey. 'Yew are yewsing it wrong!'.
Ex-f#cking-scuse me but I'm pointing the pointy-end down-range and squeezing the little curly bit underneath...
No matter, we got our SLR's back out of the QM for Gulf 1. Thank F@ck.
Now I'm allowed to choose my own rifles, I swear by the .303, as my old Dad would've used. It works.

.303 I learnt to shoot on in "Army Cadets" i was like 14. we were only allowed to shoot lying down, because you couldn`t hold the f*cker. Kick like a Mule, but boy if it hit you, you were going down. and then we got a new Cadet officer, and weren`t allowed to shoot anything other than .22?? all us 14 to 16 year olds were like "no way, thats for kids"

We got our SA80s issued just before the Gulf aswell, and guess what. exactly the same shit, no matter what gas setting it was on, you getting a stoppage. everyone in the Regiment was up in arms, but all the SLR`s had been packed for the UK, and we had to take the bloody thing to the Gulf. Those who were lucky had Mag catch guards fitted in time, the rest of us resorted to good old black masking tape, in theatre I managed to blag a 9mm SMG, as "I can`t store my SA80 correctly when i`m out with the FRG`s Sir" at the time it seemed a good idea. at least untill I got to go trench clearing, there is nowt funny about a SMG and a bayonet.
