Hello all,
I have been on antidepressants for 20 years.Recently (2013) I was diagnosed with Asperger's and complex PTSD.An eeg scan showed a consistent PTSD pattern. From the age of 14, I have been prone to mood swings, mostly in the negative realm.I recently came across lithium orotate which seems promising. A list of possible applications contained depression, mood swings and PTSD.I have already ordered it. Strangely enough, it was recently forbidden in Holland. Are there any experiences with LiOr? Obviously mood swings are comorbid with PTSD.

I'm confused as to what is 'a PTSD pattern' even supposed to be? Given there's no such thing as brain anomalies consistent for those diagnosed with PTSD.

(Nor there is a complex PTSD, to start with, as a diagnostic category.)

I'd urge against using any substances, much less lithium based, without consulting a proper and capable professional on the matter. Do you know how your kidneys function to begin with? Medication is better left to professionals. You're never treating just one diagnostic category. You're treating that *and* its influence on whole your body, and it's best left to professionals.

This PTSD pattern was diagnosed by an alternative practitioner. In Holland we call this complementary medicine.Besides the eeg the man prescribes orthomolecular supplements which work well.I am not certain which levels of what brain waves show a pattern consistent with PTSD.
Complex PTSD is diagnosed and I have it black on white.Holland as much of Europe and the world seems to follow the developments in the USA.Thanks for the tip.The alternative practitioner told me to talk to the psychiatrist before starting to take LiOr. It seems to good to let it pass so I will probably start before seeing the shrink in November.

Alternative practioners have no business diagnosing mental health (aka: brain) issues.

Please don't take anything prior to consulting a licensed *medical* doctor. That advice of talking to the psychiatrist is about the only sensible advice you've gotten in that consultation, as in sensible to follow.

Lithium Orotate is lacking in study. So, could it be helpful for depression, anxiety, etc? Yes. But it could also tie into kidney and thyroid damage. It has a significantly higher absorption rate, compared to lithium carbonate and citrate (the two forums of lithium that are prescribed as pharmaceuticals). So, in order to avoid lithium toxicity, you have to micro dose when considering orotate.

Lithium is a salt; L carbonate is found in pill form and is prescribed for bi-polar disorder, many forms of depression, and anxiety. Regular monitoring is required, to make sure that it is breaking down correctly; lithium toxicity is potentially fatal. L citrate is in liquid form, and is less commonly prescribed than the carbonate, though I'm not sure why. Same again on toxicity.

Lithium bromide and chloride were both used as table salt, for a while, until it was discovered that they too could carry toxic levels of lithium.

I would suggest that you consider waiting until you see a psychiatrist, and then perhaps starting on low-dose lithium carbonate, and following the typical protocols in terms of initial titration and monitoring of levels within your system. Lithium itself is a very significant and useful drug; but I wouldn't personally feel comfortable experimenting with it on my own.
