Srain, I thought that pic was you at first, and considering I already like your posts and what you have to say, I was about ready to fall in love. Oh well.

HA! I just saw this, Loner, no- it's not me. I am a MUCH older version but thank you for the thought :)

I think Srain's personality is so super awesome that her looks don't even matter :p
.
I agree, although it sure wouldn't hurt if she looked like that.

Wow, I feel really good now that I've just had another birthday and reading this!! You guys ROCK!!

...and I still don't look like that...only in my mind  but thank you!

OMG! I went to the hairdressers to have a couple of inches cut off my long hair, and I have ended up with a bob! And I'm not sure I like it :(
Oh, Cherryblossom, that just makes me so riled up and pissed off when they do that...I'm so sorry :(

Thankfully, it does grow back but sheesh in the meantime you just go "WTF??!!??" IDK when the hair dresser did that to me I had to go get my driver's license pic done and I was like :stop: but had no choice, I still have to flash it when asked and each time people say "wow, your hair sure has grown!"

I hope to never put myself through that again.

I've gone through alot of products with the changing needs of my hair as I grew out my flattop. Coconut oil and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) free shampoos are perfect to maintain my shoulder length grunge.

My understanding is that argan, ojon , coconut, all of the palm oils have about the same effect. They are the only natural oils whose molecules are small enough to actually be absorbed into the follicle and not just lay on the surface of the hair. Palm oils will not replace lost keratin, but they will prevent any additional loss.

You can get good quality virgin coconut oil at most health food stores for less than $10US. We cook with the stuf I use on my hair (put it in another jar). A little goes a long way. Each morning after I brush my hair, I warm the oil in a potpourri simmering pot I got at the thrift store, dip the tips of two fingers in the warm oil, massage the oil in my hands like hand cream and gently rub the ends of my hair with what is left on my hands. My scalp is kinda dry so I only have to wash my hair once a week; I use three fingers of coconut oil on my dry brushed hair after I wash it.

I read that flat ironing after you apply oil to your hair will seal the follicle. My hair is dead straight so I've been experimenting with using my wife's flat iron when I put on the oil after I wash my hair. The results are amazing-I hardly need to apply any oil til I wash my hair again!

Here's an update on my hair.

It's been close to a month now since I switched to silicone free shampoo and conditioner. I'm still cutting off split ends every day. So far I haven't lost any visible length to that, but I'm slowly but surely getting annoyed.

I've decided to keep using the product until both bottles are empty. If the splitting has ceased by then, I'll keep using it. If not, I'll have to weigh my vanity against my eco consciousness once more...

Sorry so big. This was taken a week ago. It has been a year and a half with no hair cut. Last Febuary I had a moment and cut it all off. I'm now happy with it and excited for it's future.

I ran out of shampoo and there was only 'man stuff' in the house so I went to my hairdressers and bought the stuff they use in the salon.

It works out at about £6 per bottle which isn't much more expensive than the so-called quality brands in the shops. It is called Matrix and is wonderful to use. The cost of it balances out because the amount you use is no more than a £1 coin so it lasts for ages. I have the shampoo, the conditioner and the protective spray for when I straighten it (as well as the Nak aroma oil with argon). Because my hair is coloured, I use the colour care one. My fave shampoo is Redken but it is much to expensive.

over the last few years it's got curlier and curlier,

My hair was blond and curly as a toddler and then went dark and straight but now it is getting very curly again and looks so messy if I don't straighten it - and it is shot through with grey! (I always get it coloured).

I'm growing out my hair right now. As a child it was nearly white. It's darkened a bit, but I'm most definitely a natural blonde! I'm not the most careful as I lighten it a shade and use bands, but it is SO baby soft! I only comb, never brush, and hardly ever blow dry or flat iron. As of late I've been using Philosophy 3-in-1's and they make my hair beautiful! I take vitamins and supplements that are good for hair and nails, so perhaps they help? I had the cutest cut as a child and may be daring enough to get it again...think Suzanne Sommers-ish, early 80's. Don't laugh! It's a retro cut that has been revived over the years. A few more inches and I'm good to go!

Eta I HATE short hair! It makes me feel like a boy. Eww eww ewwww!! (Yes, I had two periods of short hair and hated it!)

I used to have long blonde hair. I had it in 2 braids and wore a scarf over my head. i heard that makes you lose your hair so I have all of these beautiful bandanas that I do not use anymore.

I have had my hair very short, 1 inch. I loved it. It grew out fast. That was not too fun. But with the added stress of my husbands diseases I have it at shoulder length, and layered. I was all blonde and grey but i had it dyed auborn and I love it. It does not look so drab anymore. Interesting thread.

My hair needs a good cut. I usually get it dyed, trimmed and thinned out an then blow dried but my hairdresser is off so I will ahve to book in with someone else.

Once my fringe gets into my eyes I have to get it cut, it just gets on my nerves.
