And may I ask what is Your connection with someone who has shell shock ?

I have answered you, Euphie. Though I understand you're probably not reading well as stuck on defense, which is sadly not something anyone here can help with. Responses don't attacks make.

(And the answer was it's my type of trauma, from very early on, it's my loved one's type of trauma.)

And what could you actually contribute to this conversation other than your NEED to argue
You have received advice from multiple people.

That you decide to construe it as 'argument' and attack on your person is not anyone else's issue.

Have a good day.

Then like I said you would not understand thank you for coming to that conclusion this is not your area of understanding and I heard you loud and clear please continue to pretend to be a councilor on someone els page

I hope you can see that people are trying to help you. (A number of them vets themselves.)

I hope you can see that you're being abused.

Someone's "true self" doesn't matter so much if they're destroying those around them. My "true self" doesn't believe in hatred or violence, but if I am triggered, you bet the nasty words (and objects) can fly. Fortunately this type of behavior happens only every few years now. I wouldn't expect people around me to tolerate my bad behavior, even if it is PTSD influenced.

Yes, different types of PTSD have different issues, but at the core we share a set of basic symptoms. I hope you can take in information from all types of people with PTSD as there are a number of prominent threads of what we experience and what we deal with amongst us.

@Euphie333 you are getting answers to your questions from people who know a thing or two. Nobody is attacking you or being rude. This is a PTSD forum, there are tons of combat vets and supporters of vets here. Combat vets are responding and you're calling them rude.

We have a saying around here... Take what you need and ignore the rest. You'll get all kinds of responses here, some helpful and some not so helpful.

What you are experiencing is lashing out behavior. It can be common with combat PTSD because vets are conditioned to fight in "fight or flight" stress reactions. It doesn't make it ok, and setting boundaries is very important for a supporter in this situation.

Sigh! I have a feeling I'll regret wading into this one.

First up - my qualifications for commenting:
Daughter of a combat vet with PTSD
Niece of 3 combat vets with PTSD
Partner of a combat vet with PTSD.

Deep breath. @Euphie333 - Just wow. You came on here seeking some advice and then proceeded to basically tell all comers that they don't know you or your vet and therefore have no idea what they are talking about and should butt out.

This ^^^ is so rude! You asked people for their comments and opinions. I don't know what you want from us. Some kind of magic wand?

I want him to get back

we are just now working on the last step to his and my recovery

I would not DARE tell them that they can't fix a love one who has suffered

no it's not cureable I was told I couldn't "make him better" witch was a jump to conclusions accusation because his symptoms have decreased

These ^^^ are inconsistent. I understand you want to believe that he can recover and be his old self. Or be the person he is when he is sweet and loving. But love doesn't cure PTSD.

There is a really helpful series of videos which you can find at the top of the supporter relationship forum page. It is military family based and explains about an amygdala hijack - or rage episode.

You are certainly not alone.
