(I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but didn't see anything called 'transitions' or anything like that.)

I am planning on moving to Indianapolis in late August. I'm so excited for it and a little nervous. I'll be moving away from WI, where I've always lived, and this will be a much bigger "city" area than I'm used to. But I'm so excited to get away from WI for a while--it'll always be home, but I really want to get away and see a different place.

What's hard right now is I'm working on recovering from my concussion/whiplash from the car accident on March 21st and trying to pass my classes, graduate, buy a new vehicle, and apply for the internship I'd be moving to Indy for. Yet all I can think about is what's going to be in Indy. So much more fun than trying to figure everything in the current.

Gosh, I'm just so excited to get away from here for a while and really explore myself. I've gotten to a pretty stable place, granted, still struggling, but I think I'm finally ready to jump out of the nest and challenge myself in other ways. Plus it's less than 10 hours away, so I'm still somewhat close to my people here, and it's still the Midwest (though Eastern standard time instead of central, which doesn't make any sense to me!)

Anyone else moved across states in your 20's? Any advice? Experiences you really loved?

I can hardly wait to go spread my wings! ....now to just try to study for that durn test. Blegh. So boring!

Good Luck and Best wishes...!! Transitions can always be a little emotional! I'd mainly work on the present and finish the unfinished. Once that's behind you plan for the adventure. I don't mean ignore the preparations, it's best to be prepared for a move ahead of time and prepared for any possible contingencies...

Congrats! Yes, I did move across states (more than once) and I'm very grateful for the experience. My only real piece of advice is to pick your living situation wisely, in terms of safety, convenience (to your friends/supports and to "stuff"), noise, and neighbors/roommates. This, in my opinion, can make or break everything. For example: you could have the best job in the world, but if you're spending every other waking moment commuting to it, you may have to rethink things. The upside: the best part about moving is that there are no limits to how many times you get to do it, and you will continue to learn as you go. Enjoy the adventure! :)

@Noah It's just as scary in your 40's as it is in your 20's.

Best advice I have (I moved 2000 miles from home to the other side of the country) is take extra care of you during the process. It's scary, busy, and easy to get anxious about it. It will all work out. It will.

Ask for help. Possibly the hardest thing for ME to do, is ask anyone for assistance. Do it anyway.
Enjoy the transition. Really. It's a whole new area, a whole new city and most people don't uproot quite so dramatically that often.

Make use of the internet to explore your city. Like @DancingBull said, you will want to give consideration to where you are going to move. Look at the reviews, google street maps, police repots for the zip code, etc. All very useful tools in exploring your new place before you get there.

Finally, and this is more of a personal philosphy: Get on your bike and ride. There is no better way to learn your new surroundings that on two wheels

congrats

Great thread and I am so happy for you. I am in the process, slowly, to move into a new place and was greatly appreciative of all of the suggestions that the other people wrote to help me out as well.
