@Neverthesame, I heard some awesome things about netty pots. I cannot use it due causing flashbacks but I hope to be able to eventually. I heard it stops colds and helps allergies and all sorts of stuff.

I don't know if it will stop a cold, but they are a hell of alot easier on the nose than nasal sprays.

I prefer the squeeze bottle to the actual pot, but same concept.

So recently I was prescribed Codine with Guaifenesin. It had the same effect and the mucinex. I was terrified. I told my Dr. never again.

It was a cough syrup and I dislocated my rib from coughing so much.

Some people have extreme physical discomfort and other negative reactions with decongestants, expectorants, and cough suppressants.

It's always important to drink a large amount of water when using these drugs. Also, when having trouble tolerating the medication, investigate whether you are taking an extended release formulation; if so, try the non-extended. That can make a difference.

Active Ingredients: In Each 20 ml: Dextromethorphan HBr (20 mg), Guaifenesin (400 mg), Phenylephrine HCl (10 mg).

Maximum Strength Mucinex® Fast-Max® Severe Congestion & Cough Liquid

Less severe side effect of Dextromethorphan is nervousness:

Dextromethorphan (DXM or DM) - Side Effects, Dosage, Interactions - Drugs

A side effect of Phenylephrine is also nervousness:

So that's two things in one cough syrup that causes nervousness thus more nervousness is more likely.

Side effects of Guaifenesin does not include nervousness:

Normal Mucinex (chest congestion) side effects:

Mucinex Side Effects (does not mention nervousness) which is ONLY Guaifenesin.

This is the one I get which only has Guaifenesin on it's active incredients and nothing else:

I refuse to take anything else. Remember, to supress a cough, you need a cough supressent, Dextromethorphan. That may not matter but I think in your case it does.

But my point is it's not Mucinex causing it but other incredients.

I'd say it is possible for the pure mucinex to cause anxiety.

Guaifenesin dehydrates me to no end. (To be fair, I dehydrate very easily.)

Dehydration is a listed possible side effect of Guaifenesin.

When I'm dehydrated, my anxiety skyrockets...like crazy.

So it is possible for just the Guaifenesin to ultimately cause anxiety.

I can't take it at all because of the dehydration/anxiety factor. Fortunately for me, I rarely get chest congestion and usually get head congestion, hence pseudoephedrine is the better choice for me.

Codeine used to give me lucid nightmares, which usually ended with a fit of sleep paralysis.
You would think knowing it was just a dream would make it less frightening, but nope...
My mind is rather good at fooling me, even when I think I know what it's up to.

But that was the greatest cough syrup ever... :inlove:

Waking up with the feeling of the thing that crushed me to death in my dream, still being in top of me for a few moments AFTER I woke up. Wasn't so much fun.
I learned quickly not to take that stuff near bedtime.
