I'm not sure why your state would be different, but in my state, you do NOT have to have worked in the last year to qualify for Obamacare. My brother hasn't worked in maybe 5 years and he's got Obamacare. I'd check into the rules again, especially if it was a word of mouth thing in which you were told you aren't eligible.

I signed up via obamacare online and it came up that i am ineligible. When I called for an explanation, I was too it was because I had applied for disability, been denied & medicaid therefore automatically takes disabilities decision as their own.
