Hey Jimmy and everyone else thanks for the tips I will look into seeing someone outside the VA. I was in the US Marines from Jan. 01 to Jan 05. I was a combat engineer.I did a tour in Iraq in 2003 during the invasion with 3/1 Lima co. I was in Afghanistan in late 2003 and most of 2004. I was there with 2/8 Marines. If you have any questions just ask I am an open book. Thanks do the help. I look forward to talking with you guys. And by the way my name is Jeremiah but everyone calls me Jeremy.

Thanks
Jeremy

I understand about hajji....it will fade in time - or at the very least it will bother you only once in a while. Keep going to the shrink, if need be go to another one but keep going.

Normal is a relative term, for me I have not figured out what it means yet, but that will also come in time. Don't compare yourself to what you were before you left. You will lose your shit trying to get back there. Just get help, take meds if they give you some, research, and give it time.

We are all walking a path, and we all have our own way. Did you watch the videos here yet -- Link Removed....enlightening stuff as well as other articles Link Removed ..... lots to learn. Welcome.

Don't compare yourself to what you were before you left.

The truth there is that you're not as you were before. You've moved on, so to speak, you're a different person now. That would have happened whether you were in the service or not. Look forward with positive expectation. Take what you've learned from your experiences, do the work and you will be even stronger than before.

Believe it or not, you're at a good place in time. You're working at getting better and we're here to support you. You're on the right road.

Welcome, Jeremy. Some other alternatives to the VA are the Vet Center and some communities have mental health clinics. I'm very partial to the Vet Center as your councilor "most likely" will be a combat Vet. I say most like ly as they have begun to let in councilors that were in the military, but not necessarily in combat.

Don't let this slide as it gets worse fast.

Sarg is right! PTSD left untreated worsens quickly. Get on the stick, get to the nearest VA and get queued up for treatment.

Absolutely! Don't end up like I did last year (Damn near a year to date to be exact!) where it took just over a half dozen cops and the threat of a very well trained dog to "collect" me out of my house and into a place "for my own safety" involuntarily. It is much easier to play the game before things rise to a head.

Looking back, it makes for an exciting, if somewhat sad and dangerous story that could have been easily avoided if I had just swallowed my pride and gotten help voluntarily years before. Nothing like waking up in a strange place locked away alone in a strange room to give that boot in the ass to get on the path to recovery.
