I consider this a success and an accomplishment, as I did not react. I did not show fear and I did not allow the anger that came up in me to overwhelm and act aggressively when it was clear I and my friends were being very aggressively approached by two guys who were looking to start something!
We had just packed up from a very fun time in the inner city park where my new friend chose to have his birthday bbq. The sun came out after 2 and it was a nice crowd. Good food and a few laughs...great way to spend a saturday...until we went to leave and then things got hairy.
Two guys approached us (there were about 8 of us in total) in the carpark as we were having a smoke before leaving for the birthday boys place for some drinks by the fire. They had a big dog with them who started doing the rounds and sniffing us out. Then one of the guys decided to step into the space...and there was a certain feeling to him as he did. It wasn't a friendly get to know you, he was sniffing us out as well...for any sign of fear or weakness. It was all very predatorial and there was something behind those eyes. I was pretty sure they were both on ice or some kind of meth derived substance. Acting very weird...something wasn't right with these two guys.
At one point I went around to the drivers seat of their truck, and my friends girlfriend joined me...to get away from them both. He came into each persons space and was being deliberately intimidating, acting strange and giving the sense that he was about to start punching. Everyone there felt this! They saw me and my friends girlfriend go around to the other side of the truck and followed us and I really felt like something was going to happen. I was ready to fight! I felt like they were forcing us against the truck and the truck itself became a distance between us and the men who were on the other side of the truck.
The quieter one started talking to us about how much he liked the truck and wanted one, and said he'd have to save up in his factory job for it. They were both really scary units. She got into the truck and I followed her, staring them in the eye and wishing them well with saving up for it and slammed the door and locked it.
We all managed to get a lift so there was relief that no one had to get back to the house on their own or by public transport, as was initially the plan with one of the people, since there wasn't much room for one more...thankfully the others made an exception and took him because these guys were seriously looking for trouble.
We spoke about it on and off that night and again the next day...processing what happened and what we thought they were on or what was the situation. I started thinking about what I wanted to do when the guy got in my space. I got quite pissed off and said "What's going on mate?" to him, as my eyes didn't leave his. He turned and looked at me and there was something really cruel and vicious in his mouth...the way he said it. He said "Just going for a walk".
The next day I was thinking I wanted to say "It doesn't look like you're walking right now...maybe you should keep walking because it's not cool that you are entering the space with this attitude, and come at him. I was really feeling angry that he was trying to make us all afraid, but not knowing what he was on it was unpredictable and probably better to just not give him anything, which is what we were all doing...just acting like nothing was wrong and carrying on conversing with each other, but aware of his presence and intent.
Anyway, SURVIVED that one! SUCCESS! :D
