Hypervigelence is the word for the symptom your talking about.
When most veterans return from overseas, they are constantly checking their arcs. When they go into a room with strangers they usually head to the nearest corner where they can watch everyone coming and going.
At home, they tend to always lock the doors, no matter what time of the day or night.

When I got home from Iraq, I used to watch all vehicles that were traveling low to the ground, as if they had a lot of weight in them.
I used to lock my son outside accidentally. He treats it as a joke now when I get flustered. Most of the time he will have his phone and send me a text tell me to open up.

Its all about finding that safe place. Its also why a lot of people isolate. That way they don't have to watch anyone.
I personally want to retire to acreage. Somewhere with a long drive way where I can hear people coming for miles.

Just my two bobs worth.

Ranger, as I have said before. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Just keep walking mate.
