"You're soooo sensitive" - just had a big chat about that with a close friend...heard that one over and over. Well, still sensitive, just keep it hidden now. I see it as a gift, now. Better than being a callous a-hole, eh?
 
I too, have always been told... You are toooooooo sensitive. As if being sensitive negates the reality of our experiences...but we took that as there being something 'wrong' with us... no, nothing wrong here... just sensitive and caring.... that is a good thing.

Thanks for your response I know I will find a lot more validation than irl. I can't talk to ANYONE about my past. They either get visibly and superiorly uncomfortable or change the subject. We NEED to talk about it.

It absolutely is a gift! It made me a good mother and neighbor and friend... it's our parents, etc that make us feel as though it's a weakness and also to assuage their guilt possibly, like, "I didn't do anything THAT bad, she's just sensitive"...

Well, I'd be willing to bet that they (abusers) heard the same if they were abused as children, which actually makes it DOUBLE worse that they'd say that. I'd never ever tell my sons they are "too sensitive" if they came crying to me or I inadvertently hurt their feelings. I hate my parents when I think about shit like that...
