I been recently doing meditation and it gives me a major headache. I don't feel any different than before, I have difficulty leaving my house. I am not working and the bills are accumulating. But ever since I started the meditation the nightmares are worse and I wake up with pain in my jaw and teeth. I also wake up with my fist clenched that I mark the palm of my hands, I don't know if I should continue meditating or find another option to relieve my anxiety.

I wake up several times and the headaches are getting bad.

Do you have Clonazapam in your area... I suffer badly from nightmares and lucid dreaming. I would wake up several times a night soaking wet and terrified... the Clonazapam helps lots just vaguely remember the horror of the night before now. Thoughts are with you

How do you meditate? And does it feel all right at all, in the moment at which you meditate?

The thing with meditation is, it's such a personal thing. Everybody does it a little bit differently. Also, your experience meditating will depend on whether you are just starting out, or getting the hang of it. Can be a tricky process.

However if it doesn't add any peace to your life, just pain and nightmares, it doesn't seem a great idea to continue. Maybe see if you can meditate in some other way?

I have an APP called Calm. It is guided relaxation for a variety areas of need and the session is tailored to that. You can set times too. The relaxation piece may release the tension in your body and not be as jarring as your meditation practice as it is now.

I'm sorry to hear you are suffering. I can empathize with the nightmares and pain in the jaw. I would find a new meditation if you feel that it is related to this.

At least you were trying to be proactive in relieving your anxiety. Don't give up. Just try and find a new one that relaxes you. There are so many different ones out there. I had a hypnosis one that I felt didn't work and made things worse. Keep on trying. Your peace of mind is worth the search. I heard its best to do meditation before you eat and at a certain time of the day so maybe that is something you want to look into. Best of Luck to you! Rising Sun

The meditating I've done in the past was just essentially focus training geared toward shutting down unnecessary brain chatter and following the rhythm of my deep breathing.

It took a few months to actually master it. Every day I screamed that it wasn't helping at all. I was eventually able to focus only on the breath and silence the mind for longer and longer periods.

At the worst times, I'd actually toss a stretch into the mix - when a muscle screams from being stretched your mind has this odd way of focussing on it. Hold it until you notice it's gone then stretch another muscle & do the same....and there you have non-elitist yoga. :)

Hugs to you, I feel your frustration.
