My sufferer, an Army vet, can make very facetious, off-the-cuff remarks bordering on the sexually perverse and/or morbid that have been known to leave a person cringing or creeped out a time or two. However, the same exact things said among his military buddies leave everyone in stitches. Could this be a symptom of military culture (far more so than PTSD)?

He's always loved partaking in witty banter and enjoys "one-upping" people but admits he sometimes makes poor judgment calls on jokes gone too far and realizes they may not always be appreciated or well-received. I have lost a couple of friends over this after they reacted negatively to some of his comments, especially those who did not know him particularly well or already had him falsely pegged due to his military background. However, those particular ones always bordered on the dramatic side anyway.

It pains me to see him pained after the fallout of his jokes. He's always been hilarious (I knew him long before his service), and it's one of the things I love most about him, but I can see how he takes it too far at times. I want him to feel like he can be himself but also protect him from all the people who are already so harshly judging him. Any thoughts or advice on how to approach this would be so appreciated!

Lol I have friends like this who haven't been in service, its just their personality.
I kinda thought it was a guy thing, but maybe its more about the things they've seen and experienced in life, they're a little more desensitized than the average?
And add that to being around tough guys pretty much permanently and it almost seems reasonable doesn't it?

Some people are prudes and cant take a joke.
Your man will adjust again in time and realise what can and cant be said round delicate ears.

Your unwavering support will help too :)

Thank you. It's been hard at times having to "defend" him to certain people who claim what he's said to them isn't a joke, and as a result drag both our names through the mud.

Political correctness overload thats all.

The problem is theirs not yours.
