Sighs

My vet's current "treatment" consists of seeing a psychiatrist for about 30 minutes about once every 4 months. FFS.

He last saw the doc in early December 15. He had an appointment for next week. Which he rescheduled because it clashes with a sporting event he wants to take part in. So now he won't see the doc for another 2 months. FFS.

Not even sure why he bothers.

The *exact* same damn thing with my vet. What good is a half hour appointment? That's barely time to get relaxed and start talking.

He's stopped going because it's useless. I'm concerned, to say the least.

He says it's because they know he's medicated and stable enough not to hurt himself or others, so they can get the new guys in. They don't care about his ongoing mental health.

Don't send them off to war to be broken if you can't fix them when they come home!

they know he's medicated and stable enough not to hurt himself or others,

How do they "know" anything when they see him that briefly with that long in between? Mine's not medicated - which the doc knows. And in between sessions there are that many highs and lows on the roller coaster I bet my vet just says "yeah, about the same" when the doc asks him how he's going. I'm so mad at him for putting it off, so frustrated that this is the care he is offered, but I don't want him to stop going altogether so... :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Of course they're not going to say they're bad off... My vet was sectioned once, and he doesn't want to be sectioned again.

I've been trying to talk him into going back to his old inpatient treatment center. He went after his psych hold when he was in a really bad spot. It was a civilian one, but ran by veterans, and he thinks it helped more than the VA shrinks. He says he didn't take full advantage then, but he would participate more now... I am trying to encourage, but not push. God forbid if I push, he won't go.

Vets shouldn't have to resort to civvy treatment centers. It's just testimony to the crap treatment they get.

I'd be really pleased if hubby got to see a psychiatrist that often! He was put on medication three years ago (practically to the day) whilst in a psychiatric unit, and hasn't seen a psychiatrist in over two years.

His GP did refer him back last year, as he felt that his meds needed increasing. The psychiatrist didn't see him, just authorised the GP to increase his dosage.

Maybe we should all retrain as psychiatrists as there is obviously a worldwide lack!
