Does anyone else ever scream involuntarily during panic attacks? I had an extremely severe one recently, and it felt like screams were being ripped from my body; I had absolutely no control over it. I couldn't find anything about that happening to others, and I was just wondering if it's normal. It's very scary when it happens.

I've had that during nightmares, but not that I remember during panic attacks. It is scary, though I think it would be normal. I hope you're getting treatment?

The only time I have ever felt like screams were being ripped from my body was when my intracranial pressure spiked due to encephalitis. It was the worst pain I've ever felt, and the screams just kept coming. I couldn't stop them. I screamed uncontrollably for five hours before they were able to relieve the pressure buildup at the hospital. In the ambulance, I was screaming so loud that we couldn't even hear the siren. To be honest, I was just as scared of the involuntary screaming as I was of the pain.

ShodokanJenn I'm sorry that happened to you! I agree, the involuntary screaming is almost as terrifying as the thing that's causing it. I'm very lucky to have a husband who has nerves of steel and will hold me until it passes.

I'm starting EMDR therapy next week! I really hope that I can recover from this. Last Monday I tried to return to school to pursue pre medicine, and all the horrible memories of abuse came rushing back. I ended up in the hospital and medicated, and when I got home I had to drop all my classes except one.

Ohhhhhhh yes! And trust me, it's like the rage is there and releases the spirit of oppression we feel keeping everything inside.
I do it. My husband hates it.

My dad often has attacks that last days. During these attacks he will scream sometimes for hours. It almost as if he's possessed and if very difficult to watch.

I had the same thing, it's terrifying, and I was worry because I thought I was losing my mind.
