I'm just wondering if anyone else suffers from similar physical pains to me?

I have really bad headaches every so often (once every two days, perhaps) where it feels like there's an intense pressure in my head. It subsides reasonably quickly, but I can't help but think the old method of trephining would ease the pain immensely!

I also have really tense muscles in my neck, shoulders and upper back, and have done for years now. I do feel a lot of the time that I live in a permanent state of fear with my shoulders up to my ears, so I wonder if this could be why....

I get tension headaches pretty regularly because I also tend to keep my neck and shoulders tense most of the time. Regular exercise helps a lot, but not completely.

But the headache you're describing doesn't sound like a typical tension headache. There's quite a few organic causes for different types of headaches, so if you haven't spoken to your GP yet, I'd recommend that. Being able to determine the type of headache often leads to solutions which is a nice benefit!

Have you ruled out it being a side effect from any medication that you're taking?

I've found a good thing for helping with tension headaches, it's a been bag, that you put in the microwave to heat up, then drape it over the back of you neck.

The heat that comes off it gives you a nice relaxing feeling, and you can feel the pain drifting away, with a try.

Before I found that bean bag, I used to use a damp towel, and heat it in the microwave, it worked just as good.

Do you stretch your neck/back shoulder muscles regularly?

When my neck is very tense it cuts down the blood supply to my brain and voila a terrible tension headache.

Hi all, sorry for the late reply - moving house is a nightmare!

Thanks for all your replies.

I'm not on any medication, but I do try to stretch those muscles as often as possible, I just think after years of tension without relaxation they seem to be in a permanent tense! I will be going to the GP to ask about my headaches - it may also be that I frown a lot!

Ha! Reminds me of a GP I saw once about my migraines. He told me I just needed to relax my facial muscles.

He was wrong.
