Planned Hospitalization At Sheppard Pratt

How was your stay Laurie?
I realize this is a really late response OneNightOwl333. It was extremely difficult, needless to say, but amazingly helpful. I'd recommend it to anyone. Frustratingly, although my insurance approved it and SP had to contact them every 3 days, as is typical for continued approval there was a ridiculous problem from my insurance when I got out. I was approved through my last day, but then my insurance started saying I wasn't approved for the last day so they weren't going to pay for any of it. I called Sheppard Pratt and I was amazed at how responsive they were. It was sort of like I was continued to be taken care of - like they didn't want me to be destabilized for this. The head of insurance or whatever from SP called me and was clearly angry on my part, said the last day was approved and they would take care of it. I've gotten phone updates from SP - letting me know what is going on and asking me to call them if I had any questions. I think that says a lot about the place - that's really what it was like when I was there. Staff were just amazing. I'm doing DBT now to follow up on techniques to use to keep me stable and prevent flashbacks. Overall I'm so so much better than I was before - except when I have to have contact with my mother...

Hi Laurie! I actually just went as well, we probably just missed each other (I started 1st week o...
Never got back to you on this. I'm not paying enough attention to posts. I'm sorry we missed each other. Ironically, I too am a psychologist. I'm glad you had similar experiences. I had one day where I had a flashback hit me so hard related to stuff I really thought I resolved. Realized I've been constantly managing pending flashbacks every day. There were at least a couple of other therapists there. I was initially afraid of telling anyone. Then I mentioned it to someone and she was soooo relieved I said it because she was too. Anyway, just glad it was helpful for you!!

Just got home from my 1 month stay at Sheppard Pratt Trauma Disorders Unit

Ended up bypassing the insurance approval process, went to the ER at GBMC in baltimore suicidal, insurance company could not deny with that.

Thanks for the advice. I've looked at it. No elastic hair bands? Definitely stricter than any other facility I've been to. My packet was submitted today. Fingers and toes are crossed.

you can have hair ties (hair elastics) like the little pony tail holders, everything just has to be under 8". it's actually pretty max as far as inpatient's go (where I've worked and been). so like elastic HEAD bands are out, but most pony tail holders are ok. that was super confusing though. (this was true as of Aug 2016 at least).

@Shells Bring plenty of clothes, as what you think might be ok may not be. I followed the no spandex rule and still half of my clothes were not allowed and thus kept in my suitcase. Also best to bring any bedding, pillow and such as they suggest as well as shampoo, soap, etc., their blankets have a lot to be desired. Also bring composition books (I suggest at least 3), and pens as they specified.

Thank you so much @recoveringfromptsd. I was going to bring leggings from old navy that are 4% spandex. Is that going to be a no?
Also, what was the bathroom/ shower situation? Is everything shared dorm style or is it by room.
And it says "no oil". Does that include hair products containing the word oil?
I am in complete obsession about this and I haven't even gotten accepted. It's 3:25 am. My husband is snoring and I'm thinking about the hospital.
