I've been discharged from my psychiatrist! :D Yey! But can still get my GP to re-refer me if needed :)

We talked about how lamotrigine has worked :) - We're going to try increasing the dose as it's currently at a sub-therapeutic dose, so going to try going up to 250 & come back down if side effects appear.

We talked about Mitazapine & weight gain & impact on my physical health. She said to try focussing on sleep with my therapist with a view to coming off it in the future. I said I had good sleep hygiene etc but don't seem to have an Off switch. She mentioned a drug beginning with pr - forgotten it already! = anti histamine which may help & doesn't cause weight gain so a possibility, but not to take every night as you build up a tolerance.

I challenged her (in a nice way!) about what she meant by needing psychology - she said she was thinking that maybe if medications were not helpful, that would be the route to go down, but changed her mind now lamotrigine has worked! We talked about BPD diagnosis and how I present very differently now. She said given my positive reaction to lamotrigine and the mood instability, she's going to add in Bipolar 2 to my notes to try & soften BPD! ;) (as well as PTSD of course...)

Oh & we talked about mindfulness - either to focus on with you or to find a group as may ve helpful.

A very positive meeting = shocking & she even came across as human!! ;) (Although she was ridiculously restless - leg was going & I'm sure she was shaky! Haha!)

:hug:s @Maggiemay I believe the medication you refer to will be Prozasin. My previous psych practically told me to demand it. Your T has clearly got a much better attitude.

From my personal experience Prozasin is not NICE registered in the UK.

Not available on the NHS anyway. So extremely unlikely that either of us would get it anyway.

I think that's it... She looked up side effects and everything for me, but was the reluctant when I said I struggle every night without sleep being drug induced and take hours to drift Off if I get any sleep. Not helped at the mo by also being anemic due to physical health problems *sigh*. I'm tempted to just stop mitazapine and ride the tide butddon't think it's that simple. I desperately need to loose weight tho as my physical health is suffering :( But as psych pointed out - it's prob best to Inc lamotrigine 1st before getting ride of mitazapine as that will also be helping my mood. All far too complicated! ;) x

Now there is exactly why I stopped Mirtazapine myself. out of control weight gain, I for my sanity stopped abruptly and rode that proverbial bumpy tide, still am most days, believe me mine was a thrashing tide at times. Here if you need support or just a warm comforting

Thanks Laurie ;) I've been on it on and Off for 10yrs. Always makes me put on a lot of weight. I stopped it abruptly 2 yrs ago and that ended in 4months off work, a major breakdown and being diagnosed with PTSD deffo not going back there!! Said to psych when I first came of quetiapine (after being on it for 2 yrs) I had a big surge in flashbacks, and New ones too which made them hard to deal with, but they seem (touch wood) to have settled down...

Thanks @Snowwhite and @Seagreen :) It's taken 19yrs to finally get someone to understand me and listen! Hopefully things will now stay stable... I'm optimistic though - I have a great job I love and everyone is so supportive and good friends - I've gotten rid of all the bad influences in my life! ;) xxx

The anti-histamine medication that could have been mentioned is Phenergan. I have taken this for maybe a 1 year, although I would agree that you body does get used to it.

Prazosin is also prescribed for sleep, mostly nightmares and I would recommended by a psychologist after she had looked at some research from America. I spoke with my psychiatrist and he prescribed it off label. The only issue in the UK is it isn't NICE registered for PTSD but it can be prescribed for blood pressure. The UK also only issues it in 1mg tablets, although it can be issued in 5mg and 10mg in other countries. It does really depend on which doctor you see to get this prescribed.

Thanks ;) I probably can't take prazosin then as I'm already on blood pressure meds (atenolol) for sinus tachycardia and anxiety. I looked it up on Google - looks like it's used for nightmares in PTSD. I very rarely have nightmares, intact I very rarely remember my dreams at all!! I used to have the same terrifying nightmare every night as a child, and hallucinations when I woke up, but somehow I blocked them out.

It is a alpha-blocker, I have had a few dizzy spells since starting it as it can make your blood pressure fall when standing up quickly. Although it has made my nightmares less vivid so I will tolerate the side effects. I haven't had any side effects from the phenergan and i was put on this as I could tolerate mitazapine. I would defintely say I am sleeping a bit longer with the phenegan.
