Just to say: once youre out there and you meet people *everywhere* who know or find out, oh, you're that guy... It kinda gets into a crawl back into the closet vs keep going with the truth dynamic. This is one reason one might get caught in escalating publicness. The shamers try to bury you, so you find a wider audience. Some day maybe I'll figure out how to tell all without indicting, without bitterness, without anger. Until then i prefer sharing places like here.
Augusten Burrows, Russell Brand, Drew Barrymore, Carrie Fisher, ... Some were more famous than others before writing tell-alls, but it didnt seem to destroy them. Whereas (not naming names) those who stay silent about their struggles often are more in conflict. I think it goes both ways actually. And of course there is a difference between sharing out of self-pity or desire for revenge vs shating to empower others more afraid to share but who have gone through it.
I wish i could write a heartbreaking work of staggering genius. Or at least get paid for writing some bs something.
Sheryl Strayed is doing okay. Never heard of her before she wrote about going batshit crazy after traumatic loss. Now she's on Oprah and shit.
