My psychiatrist and psychologist have diagnosed me with PTSD something that I have long wondered about but never asked. However, one of the first requests that I had made with both when I started seeing them almost 3 years ago was that they not use that diagnosis in any records that could be subpoenaed or with my insurance company. As I have grown to accept my diagnosis and am at a potential crossroads including possible job change and relocation I am wondering what would be the pros and cons of allowing the formal diagnosis to be used. I am not looking to utilize it for access to medical marijuana I have already tried that as an adjunct to other medications and realized that I didn't like the way it made me feel and didn't help with symptoms.
So I was wondering other than the potential employer accommodations what is the good, bad and the ugly about having PTSD documented in your medical records?
