My psychiatrist and psychologist have diagnosed me with PTSD something that I have long wondered about but never asked. However, one of the first requests that I had made with both when I started seeing them almost 3 years ago was that they not use that diagnosis in any records that could be subpoenaed or with my insurance company. As I have grown to accept my diagnosis and am at a potential crossroads including possible job change and relocation I am wondering what would be the pros and cons of allowing the formal diagnosis to be used. I am not looking to utilize it for access to medical marijuana I have already tried that as an adjunct to other medications and realized that I didn't like the way it made me feel and didn't help with symptoms.

So I was wondering other than the potential employer accommodations what is the good, bad and the ugly about having PTSD documented in your medical records?

What sort of accommodations would be useful regarding your symptoms and line of work?

Accommodations that would be helpful include the ability to telecommute at times when stress is overwhelming, flexible hours to see T. I have a chronic migraine condition that I have accommodations for which includes allowing lamps for when the lighting bothers me

Do you have to disclose your diagnosis in order to have those accommodations met?

Do you have to disclose your diagnosis in order to have those accommodations met?
You will have to work with HR to get those accommodations met which will mean revealing your DX that said, in the US they can not use that information against you and you do not have to share that information in the interview process.

Could I get the accommodations met without disclosing? That is possible this position would be executive level so there is a possibility of negotiating the needs without disclosing. On the other hand despite the level of this position, the organization is small enough that my past experience tells me that to at least a significant amount the HR responsibilities will fall upon my shoulders. Hard to meet with myself and arrange for accommodations.
