I have a friend that is currently still enlisted.
She has PTSD not from combat, but from being raped by a fellow soldier while in Afghanistan.
I've been trying to get her to come here, because she feels at ease around people that are/were in the military.
Would she be welcome here even though her PTSD is not from combat?

Thanks guys!

Well all I can say is that she was in Afghan, and after something like that happening that she must've thought that there was nowhere safe at all. My own view is that she was in an operational theatre and something nasty happened...

Send a message to Nicolette. There is a Sex Abuse forum as well as the PTSD Forum and this one.
Even though she is entitled to come to this forum as she has served in an operational area, it is a majority male forum and I don't think she would get the necessary help.

Jimmy, I disagree with your comments about females being here... this forum is not a boys club.

This forum is not the military, so if she holds her own, as any female would in the military being primarily male, then she fits the criteria to be here, even if this site is primarily male.... because how would one really know whether it was her operational service of just being in Afghanistan or the rape, or both, that gave her PTSD? Nobody would be able to tell for sure.... she is a veteran, she has PTSD from an operational conflict, she meets the criteria to be here.

Anthony, it was just the way I typed it. I should of remembered not to assume. I just assumed as MurphyJB said her PTSD was from the rape that the sexual abuse forum might have had better information for her.
My bad.
Zipping mouth now.
So, Murphy, tell her to come on in and join the crowd. There are other female veterans here and we were all in a combat zone.

Jimmy. Just had a thought, mate. Might be that the lass wants to talk/listen to blokes, would like some reassurance that we're not all bastards. We could do that.

I'm all for it. My sister was raped in germany on active duty. She then was deployed to the first gulf war with a refridgeration unit that handled all our fallen brothers and sisters in a reefer truck. She had scuds popped over her head and now suffers some of the effects of gulf war syndrome. She has PTSD was it the rape or the war? So I will welcome her with open arms and try to help as much as possible.

I suppose, there are heaps of veterans out there, and a lot who just lurk watching the convo. Like me when I first joined, I did not know if I had found the right place.

I am glad all you guys are here. At one stage last year, you could go a whole month and nobody would answer.

Spot-on, mate. Every now and then all it needs is to bounce something off someone on the same wavelength. Doesn't matter whether it's bad shit or scary food, I've found it a real boost and does me good. And I like taking the piss. One day I hope to be as good as Alan....

I think every veteran has learnt how to take the piss out of people. It just has to be at the opportune moment and people have to be in the right frame of mind.

The problem is though, that there will always be someone having a bad day who might take it out of context.
