Quitting Therapy

So, I've been doing really well emotionally at the mo. My psych has discharged me & added Bipolar to my diagnosis which is positive. But I'm feeling stagnant in therapy. I haven't achieved anything in weeks and my T is starting to bore me with her lectures & starting to sound like a broken record. I'm not ready to work on intimacy and trauma stuff and not prepared to risk a relapse and fed up of her going on and On about food... When she mentioned I may need a break (which usually I hate and makes me cross with her!) I agreed it may be for the best. It's pointless flogging a dead horse.

I have found that breaks can be helpful. I don't see it as flogging a dead horse. I see it as shifting the focus to using what I have learned in real world settings. There comes a time to test the new limits.

Good luck, whichever way it flows for you, Maggiemay.

I think taking a break from therapy may be a better idea then quitting therapy.

I'm confused how your psychiatrist could discharge you and diagnose you with Bipolar Disorder at the same time? Are you getting help for that or getting a new psychiatrist?

@Ayesha - I'm on lamotrigine which is working well, we're going to Inc now to a therapeutic dose. Bipolar diagnosis actually a good thing - I'm also diagnosed as as borderline personality disorder so a step forward to get my mood instability recognised as something internal and longer lasting than reactive borderline moods that last a few hours. Add on top of that PTSD = complicated!! But psych and I discussed making an appt in 3months and decided it's pointless me going just to say everything is ok. I still see my GP every month at least and he can re--refer me if needed and her books are open to me for the next 6 months...

Exactly... Sigh...
I know why, she cares and wants me to be physically healthy - I've put on a lot of weight with mitazapine and now got health issues and need to loose weight, but it's easier said than done... Xxx

I am sure she does care but lecturing someone to get them to lose weight is highly inaffective and most likely to have the opposite effect and likely to make you feel gulity, which in turn may make you go to food to try to comfort yourself. Unhelpful !
