Random Things I Do

Today's random thought was brought on because of the title of the leverage show I watched. It was called the Iceman job. Which of course made me think of that dude they found covered in ice in 1991. He was a bronze age man that people found while hiking one day. It was kind of neat to find out how he apparently died and how he lived. They found that he might have been involved in a skirmish and died because of it. I found it interesting that he had a copper axe made of 99.7% copper. He had eaten only hours before his death a good old meal of Chamois meat (which I have no idea what that is)(correction It's a a goat-antelope species living in northern Europe. Had to look it up). The thing I do not understand is that of the 14 arrows he had in his quiver only 2 had fletching(feathers attached). Maybe back then it was too hard to attach the feathers? Anyway I just figured I would share today's random google search.

Random question brought on by watching America's funniest videos. I was watching it and they had a bunch of clips of people just walking right into things which of course brought a question into my mind.

On any given day how many people just walk right into things?

While making breakfast for my daughters this morning the fresh prince of bel-air popped into my head. And while I was humming it to myself I came up with a line on my own that sounded kinda cool. So i sat down and wrote out what I could think of. Now none of this rhymes and it doesn't fit the theme song to well but I sang it to my wife and she said it was kinda funny. So while you read this think of it as put to the theme song of fresh prince of bel-air.

Now this is the story all about how my live got flipped turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute just sit right there I’ll tell all bout how I became the prince of PTSD. At West canal Street work and slave at the factory is where I spend most of my days. Working my butt off and thinking I’m cool and driving a forklift Somewhere near the Brew. When a busted pipe line that was leaking propane started making trouble in my neighbor hood. I got blown up just once and I got scared and said I ain’t going to work at Falk Corp no more. I went to a new job and when I got there I freaked at a storm and cried a bunch more. If anything I could say that this was quite strange but I thought nah forget it I am a big boy. I confided in my wife around 7 or 8 and I wrote to her that I was freaking out and she called my mom and they sent me to the doc. And that’s how I became the prince of PTSD.

That's all I got. Now on another note got a new sleep med and used it last night. I fell asleep here in my chair and around 1 in the morning I wandering into my bed. Now here is the strange part. I woke up around 6:30 because my back was hurting. I reached my hand to my back to try and rub the sore part out. Well when I reached back there I found something stuck in my butt crack. A BUTTER KNIFE!! So I am sorta wondering what the heck I was doing in my drug induced coma now.

LOL!!!!! Ok, as far as the *butter knife* in your butt crack.....I wonder if you were sleep eating...

I was woken up at home once while peeing in the laundry hamper, and laughing about a joke someone told at the party... hey, these little things are free comedy ;D

I have to admit, the butter knife in the crack is pretty original, though ;D

Tonight was a good one. I was making toast and thought to myself hmm when did people start making toast? So off I went to the computer to research the origin of toast. According to the BBC website toast was first made by the Egyptians 6,000 years ago usually by being put on a flat stone in the desert.

You got me at it now Popeye. I saw a advert on a bus not long ago about unusual science facts, one of them was about how many slices of toast an average lightening strike could make.
Can't remember how many it was, but it could keep us all in toast for years.

Well to find the answer to that question you'd have to know a lot about electricity. Positive versus negative lighting strikes and the average electricity needed to power a toaster. Then again that would be a matter of a split second so the question would be how quickly can bread turn into toast. Wow much much much to explore. Great thanks a lot now I am going to be doing math about this for weeks, just what I need. LoL :)

100,000 pieces of toast. (Google is a wonderful thing... no need for math and physics) A typical lightening strike has 5 billion joules which could power a 1000 watt toaster 2 slice toaster for 184 minutes. In 184 minutes you could make around 100,000 slices of toast.

If you like random science stuff popeye, maybe you take a look at this Phisics web site, it's got loads of wierd facts on it.

But just maybe it is one you already have LOL, it is the one with the toast on it.

Another day another random search. This one was basically because of my youngest child. She was found sitting on the bathroom floor eating the pink sidewalk chalk. Which besides having to read and see if she needed her stomach pumped made me wonder when chalk was first used in writing. The best I could find in my 10 minute search was that chalk has been used to draw and create images since prehistoric times. Apparently also black red and white were the most common colors of chalk for years to come. Leonardo Da Vinci used chalk in a number of his drawings. Black chalk wasn't highly used until 15th century.

Which leads me to wonder when were the first chalkboards used? Well prior to 1801 students used personal sized pieces of slate and used more slate to make marks and write down their problems. Mr. George Baron, an instructor at West Point Military Academy, is considered to be the first American instructor to incorporate the use of a large black chalk board into the presentation of his math lessons in 1801. However, it's probable that a few other schools had access to it, also.

OK that's my lesson for the day.
