New Here
Hi all - I was diagnosed two years ago after an RTA. I have been very lucky in terms of support, therapy and finding meds that work for me. Don't misunderstand that - I don't think "I'm cured" or even that "I am better" - I am simply better able now to recognise and manage my symptoms than I was. I am now ready to share with others who have PTSD - if they are happy to share with me. I am a firm believer in being kind to ourselves and would like to offer warmest wishes to all of us who are survivors.

Hi Tigger! I'm so glad you are here!!! You have a great attitude and good job on the hard work to get where you are today. It's encouraging :)

p.s. just curious, what is an RTA?

Hi @Tigger123... Welcome to the forum. I was involved in a car accident in July. It was my second trauma. Just wondering what kind of therapy or meds have helped you?

@Notsowild - Have had 24 sessions CBT (still in therapy but less frequent) and on anti-depressants/beta blockers (Mirtazapine & Atenolol); have also learnt about "Mindfulness"; grounding techniques; breathing exercises etc - it's only now looking back I can see how far I have come - for a long time, I fought having any meds and it made it harder to do the work in therapy. Glad my T made a very good point "if a cardiologist told you to take pills for your heart, would you tell him, no - it's ok, I can fix it myself..........." But everyone is different and what's worked for me in helping me manage my symptoms may not work for someone else......
