Rules Warning System Discussion

Death is a SHE??
Death has no sexual orientation or being to the best of my knowledge. I think ISH was just being presumptuous wishing that when his time comes, he is taken by a female. ;):p

She could be subcontracted to enforce the rules maybe.

Come on ISH... what you don't think we are mean enough as it is??? :devilish: Based on some of the PC's we get sent you would think we were on par with the evil side of death (not intentionally; just member impressions when they don't like us doing our job).

Hmmm... think I am now beginning to empathise with Death. :whistling:

Best we get back on track though as we wouldn't want to get ourselves into trouble. :speechless:

To all that read this thread:

Please take the time to notice the changes that were made from the original "warning" to the new "notification". It may not be as "warm and fuzzy" as some would like, but it is definitely not threatening. Know that members were heard and things were taken into consideration and changes made.

It is important to understand this site is a community. What is done is done for the best of the "community" as a whole. Unlike the rest of the world, participation in this community is voluntary; but once you agree to participate, you agree to abide by the rules that govern this community.

We all have PTSD and the first time I joined I was in such a bad state, I really did not clearly read and retain what I agreed to. That is why the "New Member Notification" exists. We really do understand PTSD, but it is also up to each member to take control of their own recovery. Part of that is being responsible for those things we should be responsible for. Look at the rules as a step towards responsibility and a conscious active decision to take a step to make your life better.

To all new people reading this, give it a year before you respond, Anthony is strong enough to bring it up for response each year.

I think many of us are in too much of a hurry when we first come here, we are looking for a quick fix and the more we learn we realise that such a thing doesn't exist. If you are here expect to be here for a couple of years at least. So take the time to learn how to fit in with everyone else. ( most of us learn the hard way by upsetting someone completely unintentionally.)

Bad grammar frustrates and makes people angry because they cannot understand it and end up trying to guess what is being said.

As to Death being a woman of course she is, how many times do you hear a bloke say that " She's gonna be the death of me." Especially if he has a daughter. lol ( lol. A great way to let people know you are only joking.)

Take time, it's the greatest healer.

I agree there needs to be rules - in all situations because the inclination of people and the universe in general is entropy. Those with PTSD tend to have entropy squared.

For myself, I did make mistakes when I first joined because I was desperate for help and when I was "googling" suicide and PTSD, this forum popped up. What I tried to keep in mind when I got warnings was that one of the cardinal emotions of PTSD is over-sensitivity, as if everything is an attack.

While I've yet to experience the new warning format, the example above seems perfectly fine. It does the trick without anyone getting lost in the warm-fuzzies or feeling as if they've been smacked down.

I do wonder though if the younger generation who've been taught to spell phonetically, and text - if they're having a more difficult time with spelling and grammar?

LOL... I don't think it would hurt them to learn how to spell correctly when not using their mobile phone. What gets me with the acceptance of SMS speak, is that some of these teens actually think it then transfers to every platform. I understand it is now recognised as a language, though that language has a time and place IMHO, being typing 140 characters or less input. :coffee: :cautious:

I struggle to read some of that nonsense to be honest.

I appreciate the rules, it's helpful to have such a clear definition of how to use the forum properly. Somehow I missed the part about how points expire, good to know. I've been worried about posting while upset and losing access over too many grammatical errors adding up. There's forgiveness built into the system. I love that part.

Whilst this thread is 7 months old... yes, it was always designed to quickly bring rules to members attention, not to ban them from the site, hence the expiry on them. Temporary banning only applies to anyone who simply doesn't want to conform to site rules.

The rules on grammar and spelling seem very soft (a good thing, at least for me). My grammar and spelling are pretty bad, but no one ever bothers me.

I guess my point is that if you make an effort (a real effort) to be understandable, you seem to be OK...

It annoys me so much that I pretty much won't read it if there's more than a word or two, much less respond.
