New Here
Hi
I am new to the forum. My 15 yr old daughter has c-PTSD, and has been out of school for almost 18 months. She has been under CAMHS (useless) for all this time too. We have been fighting with the Local Authority over specialist provision for her. We have found an amazing school, which she loves, but it is a distance away. They specialise in dealing with children with PTSD. The local authority want to send her to a local school which specialises in Autism - in fact 68 out of 70 pupils are autistic. We, and my daughter, know it is not right, but the LA are not listening. We have now employed a solicitor to take the LA to tribunal. We are so frustrated. Does anyone have any knowledge as to why going to an ASD school would be bad for someone with c-PTSD? Any advice or thoughts would be really welcome

I don't know anything about the education of autistic children, however I am thinking that she's not going to get the kind of support that she needs because the educators won't be attuned to PTSD.

Can you ask the other school, the one that specializes in PTSD, to advocate for you/her?
Yes, they are trying their best. I think the only way is going to be through the legal process, but that means more time off school. We are visiting the school we don't want with a list of questions we know they will fail on, so we have even more ammunition.
Thank you

I noticed the German flag in your post. Do you live in the USA or are you guys in Europe? I know there are many more possibilities here in the USA. I myself am a German, born and raised over there and moved into the US a long time ago.

I have PTSD and I am autistic, and even though I know that not everyone has the possibility I would never send a child with PTSD to a regular school, because someone with PTSD is so easily abused by others. For years I did not even know that the people I turned to for help actually were competent abusers who totally took advantage of my illness. I shudder to this day when I think about it.

Hi I actually live in the UK, but was on holiday in Germany when I found this site. I am really sorry to hear what you went through, and thank you for giving your advice. I have a long fight ahead of me, but I know it will be worth it to get her in the school she needs and wants to go to, which is definitely not a regular school.

@Bowiejcecc

Wow!

I understand both ASD and C-PTSD very well and sending a Neuro-Typical aka NT(ie. non-ASD) child to an ASD school is fvcking ridiculous, especially when she has PTSD and there is a PTSD program available.
:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Why it would be bad for her?

The behavior and needs of an ASD child are vastly different from her behavior/needs and ALL of the strategies that the ASD children are taught are 100% irrelevant to her life.
She is socially normal and needs relationships with other NT children.
She will be an OUTSIDER amongst the ASD kids b/c she is different....this will create EVEN MORE stress in her life.

Oh and if anyone thinks that kids with ASD can't bully/tease/mock/exclude others....bahahahaha....as fvcking if!!!!
I assure you, they are kids first....autistic second.
Autistic kids are not saints(well some are:happy:)

This dear child needs acceptance and understanding as she learns how to live with our collective curse...C-PTSD.
May she have it.

Fight those SOBs:mad:
She is worth it!:hug:

@Bowiejcecc

I understand both ASD and C-PTSD very well and sending a Neuro-Typic...

That is an amazing answer! Thank you for taking the time to give such detailed points - I will be using what you have said to help support our constant battle
Fingers crossed someone starts to listen.
