Service dog rollercoaster

Well I am now the proud Papa of a young girl of 7 months Renamed Abby previously known as Cookie. She was the perfect lady with my buddy Jehtro when we met her. She touched noses with him and sort of waved with her paw and then wandered back to my daughter and licked her face. I don't know alot about her besides this she is wonderful. She's exactly what i was hoping for in a dog. A real lover and already does alot of licking which can be a good task to help me out of a panic attack.

There is one problem with her though as far as sending her directly out for training... She isn't house trained. But she seems to be learning quickly then again it's only the first day and she might not truly understand what she is doing yet.

Hooray, Popeye!

Congratulations!
I am thrilled for you, Popeye!

Your posts are very helpful...
I'd love to have a service dog.
(We have a pet rescue, but he's too high-energy - he can't stop to think, and he developed some very odd survival traits after being abandoned in the woods as a puppy. If you can envision a high-energy dog running through the house with the end of a roll of toilet paper in his mouth - rapidly tp-ing the place, it'll give you an idea. Source of a lot of laughter, though...)

I look forward to reading more of your posts about Abby, the training and work together.
Wonderful news...

This is great news Popeye! Just curious about how you came up with the name.

Hmmmm, I married someone that has the same name as my boyhood dog! Wonder if there is any psychological explaination THERE? And I won't go into the whole house training subject.

Oh and I should say, my name is the same as her imaginary friend when she was a child.
(But at least not her DOG!)

We came up with the name because we already have one NCIS Character here. Jethro my terrier beagle mix is named after Leroy Jethro Gibbs and now we have Abby Sciuto. Jethro and Abby are getting along great. Plus Abby already has the idea about the house training. She went to the door today and whined to be let out. That's better than Jethro already lol

Once she gets the idea of house training she will be off to learn the rest of it.

popeye,

I've been reading your posts and following your story so I just want to say Congrats!

Glad to hear that she's a quick study of the house training.

Congrats popeye. I have a coonhound/lab mix that is about 5 yrs old. She's a wonderful dog and a big lover. Of course if we are out in the yard and she catches the scent of something, like a 'coon, she wants to take off and investigate. Great dog in my opinion.

Congratulations Popeye! That is just wonderful you found your girl. I love coonhounds, used to have two. The first was very abused so we were just buddies and kept eachother warm. The second was a puppy and she was amazing, we were training her to be a search and rescue dog. They are very smart and truely love to please.

Congrats again and I love the name!

Thank you all for the support. I am so nervous now because I had to move out of my home with my wife's grandma because she kicked me out due to the dog. And the fun part of all of this is it's my birthday today. I reached the age of 29 today.

Anyway Abby is doing pretty good with her training. we worked last night on how to sit like a good girl to get treats. she didn't undersand the first few times so I helped her get into the position and she got a treat for it. Now she listens to me and I can almost see her brain working trying to figure out what I want. Eventually she sits and then she gets her treat. She likes that so we will work on it a few times today. Plus to prevent her from chewing on everything we got a few new toys. Plus a very large water container thing for her cause she drinks alot of water.

Aww Popeye, she kicked you out on your birthday.

Well happy birthday from me, and may you and Abby succeed in everything you do together.
