In my case it wouldn't be a fear of intimacy it would be a trust issue. I'm not 'afraid' of emotional or physical intimacy, it's many other things... Is this person trustworthy? A stand-up guy? Can he be trusted? Does he live with integrity? Will he use/abandon me? Does he have motives? And This has been a problem from the PTSD. It's almost like I HAVE to know if this person is a decent human being before getting involved, which of course is impossible, getting involved with anyone means taking risks. Which I'm not or can't take anymore because of the PTSD / trust or fear issues. Not an easy thing to overcome.

Lots of people have sex only relationships for a myriad of reasons. Its not just a PTSD thing.

Yep. Few years back I came to reconcile myself to not having real relationships; but I still got lonely and wanted some form of intimacy, even if it's really just "pretend" - wasn't so much interested in the sex, but rather the bit afterwards of closeness and sharing a bed.
I don't do this anymore though, personally, I didn't find it helpful in the long term.

There are also whole sub-cultures where that's pretty much the norm. No fear of intimacy, no trust issues, just culturally normal for a lot of different reasons.
f*ckbuddies are part of a military sub-culture, for example. Free & readily available healthcare, short stays anywhere (from as little as a few days to a few weeks, relationships are rare unless you're somewhere a few months for them to last), stress relief, & the whole might be dead tomorrow thing... All very much support an open sexual culture. People are still decent, there are rules involved, they're just very different rules than you find in other populations. Including other sexually open sub-cultures.
