Is Christmas religious festival? Only Christians can take

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It is suppose to be a religious celebration. However, I do believe there are people who celebrate it without believing in Jesus Christ as the son of God. I know my Father-in-law's religion, Unitarian, does not believe that Jesus is the son of God, but he still celebrates Christmas. I asked him why he does one year and he said because he wants to. Of course, not all Christian's celebrate Christmas. I guess it all matters on what your beliefs are.

Hi Jaret, Christmas is a religious holiday for Christians, but so many religions have festivals and ceremonies that happen the same time of the year that commercially, it has become very inclusive. Many places do not use religious symbols in their decorating. Christmas trees are based upon a pre-christian religious symbol that was tolerated because it incorporated elements of a tradition that was ingrained in peoples culture and was modified to fit christianity. Since then most public decorations do not symbolize any specific religion. I hope you enjoy the holidays and continue joining in. I would like to hear some of your traditions if you have any this time of year.

This thread is so lovely, Christmas decorations will go up soon at my house and I can't wait. I'm thinking this year I'll buy a new tree as mine is small and rather Charlie Brown looking:oops: since I didn't enjoy Christmas too much in the past. Kids have a way of fixing that. Their voices singing carols and asking excitedly about Christmas lights and Santa puts it all in a new perspective. I can honestly say now I love Christmas. :)

Jaret, Christmas was originally a pagan holiday. Then the christians made it their own. I think many non religous people get a tree and do presents. So anyone can take part. I will try to do my pictures later on in the day. Thank you for the offer of help for me. I appreciate it so much.

I think you are right about this. Like my FIL. Though it wasn't much talked about while I was growing up, it was always implied that it was Jesus's birthday and santa was seperate from that. Plus that is what the church I was going to at the time, preached. My children were brought up the same way. Still, we've never went to midnight mass or anything like that.

I bought the tinsel today and decorated our chimney breast. Looks good now.
