Shit Happened - 22hrs Data Gone

Well, I could apologise for this, but I actually wasn't working on this site or doing anything with it... this was more a shit just happens and it did big time.

I was doing a test upgrade on the combat forum and somehow, the install data from that site imposed itself onto this site... the server techs have no idea how such a thing happened, I have no idea, the software geeks at vbulletin have no idea.

Ghosts is the end outcome... with a restore from the last days backup. Unfortunately, the last backup was exactly 24hrs from now, 22hrs from when it all went to shit.

Any new members, posts, threads, etc.... all never existed. Some times I just hate computers.

My husband runs the IT at his environmental lab and has a deep, deep loathing for all computers. I've heard this sort of incomprehensible disaster lots of times, but it must be terribly frustrating for you all!

Hope it's ok to smile in the face of disaster because She Cat pointed out that the infractions were gone. That's something!

I honestly had to just walk away from it once running again last night, as my frustration was way to high to be online or dealing with any more yesterday. Feel a bit better today so I will update things that I did with polls and such that got lost.

In the 15 years of running websites, this specific type of incident has never occurred for me ever... and even mentioning to some others yesterday, they had never heard of such a thing happening either. The server techs though... as Anni eluded... they had encountered it lots and gave me the simple truth! There was nothing they could do to fix it bar revert to the last full backup.

Still unimpressed over this. I remember years ago when first starting this forum, there was a major software update then not long after starting the forum, where information got lost with some silly things happening... though it eventually stabilised and all was well again. Just frustrating that now I am compelled to take a backup of this database before I try install vbulletin on another domain now incase such a thing could happen again. Atleast doing that, the most lost would be five posts, if that.

I'm sorry for the technical problems, but I'm glad to learn that I haven't lost my mind thinking I posted quite a bit yesterday when I really hadn't. That would have been a serious hallucination. I guess even in cyber land one can lose control of the outcomes...Thanks again for all that you do to keep this site going.

Actually... just being on here this morning, I am still that frustrated and pissed off from what happened that I am calling it quits today and going to watch movies. Being here at the moment isn't making me feel all that good.
