Should I Go Back To Work Or Go For Ltd?

Hi everyone

I'm just coming out of shoulder surgery for my rotator cuff and am to report back to work in a few weeks. My doctor does want to check with me before I am due to go back but I feel pressured to go back to work. My shoulder is 70% to 80% (I'm about to get discharged from physical therapist just to get some pure rest) and want to give it a shot to try working.

My question is it ok to try to go back to work and see how I feel? Would that hurt me to go for LTD? I really want to see what happens, test out for a month. If my shoulder is still giving me issues, and my doc says I can't go back to work, could I reapply for STD and go for LTD? Not sure how it works, and I'm feeling down for a bit (not sure if it is PTSD since I did go through an accident over a year ago).

Just worried if I go back to work, I'm getting issues with my shoulder and possibly feeling like crap, I can't work again and won't be able to be fairly compensated. Thanks all.

I am assuming SLD is 'short term disability' and LTD is 'long term disability'? This forum has members from all over the world of making abbreviations clear is a must.

You really should see a doctor about your symptoms that you think might be PTSD. None of us here can tell you if you have it or not. But seeing a doctor and telling him how you feel depressed might help you decide what you want to do. He will be able to help you realize where you stand in terms of your mental health.

Wishing you the best and welcome to the forum.

When I was wondering about the short term and long term disability(STD, LTD), I called my STD carrier and asked. Each carrier is different, and some states (if you are in the states) have state disability. As for the PTSD, I echo the others, see a professional.

Need to check with your employer and the carrier. They sometimes don't sync even though they are supposed to. And yes, no one here can diagnose, and most of us aren't qualified to diagnose ourselves with anything other than a cold. So see your doctor with your concerns. It's the only way to receive the kind of help you really need.
