Some Realisation On The First Day At Work...

I agree with @Sammyiam.

I don't think it matters where you start. I think that its largely a construct of modern society. That is, I've heard a LOT of older people say that younger people automatically want the high paying prestigious job right off the bat without working for it. I'm not sure what has changed over time other than our insatiable want for things. And its not just in the job market, its in the housing market, the ANYTHING market. For example, with the housing market.....no longer do young people scrimp and save to make the down payment on a house. You can get 100% financing (which is stupid b/c if you can't save for a down payment, then how are you going to be able to save enough for back up funds when something needs maintenance?) I can't tell you how many people I know who fell into this trap and are now bankrupt.....ie the I want it and I want it now sort of mentality.

I think its good to learn to build yourself up from the bottom. A sense of entitlement is.....not attractive. I have SO much more respect for those who work their way toward things rather than having them handed to them. (An ex of mine was born with a silver spoon in mouth, and never worked a day....I just think ok, that's "comfortable" but at the same time, what have you actually accomplished at the end of the day? I'd go crazy I think!)

It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks! I have advanced degrees but I'm going back to school to get an Associates Degree so I can enter a new career. I *could* use my other degrees, but at this point they're not in fields that I can honestly say I want to work in! And my true passion.....well, I don't need any education whatsoever in order to work in that field (but it will inevitably come in handy at some point!)

At the end of the day what matters is that you have a job and you're working hard to move forward (in whatever capacity).

I think your first day was a success! You took time to care for yourself, and you talked yourself through it. That's a win in my book.

The other posters commented on "starting somewhere". There is so much truth to that! My first job after the diagnosis was completely different than my other job which is completely different than my degree. I think it's great that you are within your field. Someone will notice what a great asset you are and will put you where you will be most suited. Congrats!

Jt1, I am so proud of you! You have officially began on a wonderful journey! I think that it is a great starting point. Stay centered, know who you are and remember the unbelievable skills you can offer!
Now this is place to prove your skills and it's not the ending but the beginning!
It is the perfect beginning and the start of many wonderful experiences and the gateway to many opportunities that do await you. Warmest always my friend, Rising.

Again, a great upward and onward beginning for you:hug:

It is tricky to not get caught up in other people's perception of their job. Yet another skill set that this job offers you. If the "work" itself becomes dull, you can look to learn so much more than the "work" itself.

Good luck. I'm excited for you.
