Starting Medication Today...

So I saw a psychiatrist today. I wanted to try medication because I wanted to see if it would help me at all. Nice man. And basically, at the end of it, he put me on zoloft.

I took it today around 4pm, and it's now 1030pm. I took a nap and woke up to a really unpleasant stomach feeling. And a lil bit higher anxiety from it.

I ate to help my stomach calm down a bit, and now it's making very loud noises.

It's all a little spooky, but I'm guessing those effects will go away in a week or two.

I've heard good things about Zoloft, of course all medications affect everyone differently. I have been told that it can take a couple of weeks and the side effects tend to subside.

Day 3 update- Took zoloft at 3:30pm. It's currently 10:43pm. The anxiety effect is quite a roller coaster for me. Sometimes it's really bad, other times I can bare it. But this anxiety is way worse than anything I've had naturally. My jaw clenching has gotten a lot worse, as it's pretty much constantly clenched unless I'm really distracted from myself.

People are saying on sites to just roll with it and if it doesn't get better in a month (I'd say when I visit my psychiatrist again), that I should try different medication. People are also saying if I can't bare it, I should stop. I can't bare this, mainly 'cause I just don't want to.. Sticking in there, hoping for the change to come in a couple weeks or so..

Earlier this morning; around 7am. I woke up to loud ringing in my ears (tinnitus). I tried to go back to sleep for a couple hours, where the ringing would return occasionally and keep me up. Anxiety was also out the roof.

Hopefully this gets better sooner than later.

Jaw clenching is related to tinnitus according to my ENT (ear/nose/throat) doctor. He told me that many of his patients who come to him with tinnitus have jaw clenching issues (like me).

I hope your side effects subside!

I kind of figured that.. and the jaw clenching is because of anxiety.. so my anxiety is causing crappy side effects. I hope they subside soon.. I'm supposed to take 50mg today; worried a higher dose isn't gunna help. Which is making me more anxious... Ohh a vicious cycle.

Called the doctor to see if there's anything he can do.. They said they'd call back.

I must be grinding my teeth or clenching really hard while I'm sleeping.. Since I'm only waking up to tinnitus. And then it lasts on/off for like up to an hour. Gives me a weird tingle in my body too. I don't like it.. which makes me more anxious.

So much anxiety. Might explode, haha..

Hollyberrytea,

You started this medication less then 3 days ago. You are going to have to give it time. Also, in my experience sometimes there are side effects at first but then your body gets used to it and then they get better. In my case a lot of them went away.

You should try to do things that calm your anxiety. Watching a relaxing TV show or taking a walk. Something that is less worrisome to you.

But of course, if you do feel the side effects are too much then you should take to your doctor and request them to be changed.

Take care,

Ayesha

Yeah.. My doctor called me back and said if the half dose was making me feel this bad, that he's gunna take me off and try something else.

I talked to my sister, and she told me about what medications helped her.. and since we're biologically related, might be good to try something that works better for her, as it might for me.

I got off the zoloft and I tried paxil. However, paxil did not work for me...

Today, he's putting me on something else.. I can't remember the name. I'll post when I remember it. (Or when I pick up the prescription.)
