I am concerned that this normalizes pleasing one self with the sound and sights of a clear objection, even if it is from a robot. I'm all for letting whatever two consenting adults do whatever they want in the bedroom, and I get that this is a robot, and thus can't consent or not... but geez. Really?

Sometimes just because we can do it doesn't mean we should.

I'm not saying that ALL men are rapists but at the same time this does nothing for this view----I mean let's break it down. WHO buys these sex bots? Like many products it's a demand based commodity. There is a certain type of man who is going to purchase this product. Well to be fair, women too, but please don't feed me a BS line about how sales will be split equally across gender lines. This is really disturbing. There could potentially have been really positive things have come from technology like this. Helpful, therapeutic, companionship stuff.

Instead, they're suggesting that rape-behaviours are something that "need" an outlet. Which perpetuates the myth that men can't control themselves, and/or shouldn't have to.

When actually, men can control themselves. Men and women can coexist without violating each other. Some behaviour? Is simply not okay.

I like the example given in the article: should we be providing blood-spurting murder-me robots for all the closet psychopaths as well?

It says something about our society that when we make advancements in technology like this, this is what we do with it.

While I do fear there is the potential to create rapists or encourage or desensitize , I also think there is the possibility that rapists may use the robot instead of creating more victims. I guess I am the fence. I don't like the fact that there is even a demand for it, but if used in a way that those type of people use it to stop themselves from committing rape against an actual person..

The why would anyone buy one at all. The problem is that there is a market for it. The product wouldn't exist if there wasn't a market and that is the real disturbing thing about it.
